Or just get rid of it entirely, trusting to searching on the combined "web original" and "funny" categories to serve the same purpose?

I'd say "categorize".

Advanced Search - which is the only extension that I have found so far that allows for searching on multiple categories - doesn't work on Miraheze because it has a prerequisite that requires too much in the way of system resources.

If we actually have a way to search on multiple categories, I'd say get rid of this and the other similar portmanteau categories... but as far as I know we don't have a way to do that kind of search, so this is still useful.

Keep as a category until we can replace with a more robust search function.

As much as I hate these things and prefer to watch them die whenever we can kill them off, Rob's suggestion is better than nothing at this point, so as hideous and clunky as they are, might as well keep them for lack of anything better for now.
