Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

I just rolled back your edits to Pronoun Trouble

Most of your edits to Pronoun Trouble were stylistic choices and did not cause any problems, but also would not cause any issues if they were removed. These edits were problems and needed to be rolled back:

  • You removed the "context" tag from an example without providing context.
  • You replaced a date with the word "recent", thus requiring either rollback or the addition of the "when" tag to have somebody come in and add the date back in.
  • You replaced "Category:Japanese Language" (which exists) with "Category:Useful Notes/Japanese Language" (which does not exist).

In the future, please do not remove requests for context without providing the requested context, and please do not remove actual data such as real-world dates.

A barnstar for you!

The Special Barnstar
You've been making excellent edits and spotting problems on the wiki ever since you created your account. Thank you! Robkelk (talk) 20:42, 13 October 2019 (UTC)

Automatic Moderation

Hello Umbire the Phantom!

As a result of the Great Miraheze Spam Flood that affected multiple wikis in December 2020, we have instituted moderation of posts. Most people's edits and image uploads will not appear immediately, the way that they would on Wikipedia... but, now, yours will - no more waiting for a moderator to approve your edits.

This is a privilege given for consistently good edits and being a Troper in good standing, not a right. Congratulations!

Hey!

I have started the Hollywood Malware trope. Please come and help out. RocketMaster (talk) 14:15, 24 December 2020 (UTC)

For future reference...

Per All The Tropes:Creating Disambiguation Pages:

[U]nlike Wikipedia we do not append "(disambiguation)" or anything similar to the name of the disambiguation page -- one of its purposes is to catch any unspecific links that exist in the wiki. Making it distinct from the "common name" would defeat that purpose.

So as to make the best use of the disambiguation page you've created, I renamed "Cyclops" to "Cyclopean Creature" and your new page to just "Cyclops".

Why I just reverted your edit to "Token Lesbian"

You changed "homosexual" to "gay". Maybe this is a case of Small Reference Pools, but where I live, "gay" specifically refers to homosexual males. The trope is about homosexual females. Thus, "gay" isn't the right word for that trope. --Robkelk (talk) 03:09, 4 March 2021 (UTC)

Just to add to this, it's "LG" (lesbian, gay) in "LGBTQ" for this reason, among others. -- Looney Toons (talk) 13:32, 4 March 2021 (UTC)

Why add a media type to Something (ROM Hack)?

Our policy is not to append a media type to a work name unless it is necessary for disambiguation. Are you planning on creating another page called "Something"? -- Looney Toons (talk) Looney Toons (talk) 14:29, 13 March 2021 (UTC)

Please don't insert blank lines under Examples and Tropelist templates.

This is a deliberate style choice for the wiki -- I've been removing blank lines under these templates everywhere I find them for nigh unto eight years now. Please don't undo my work and/or add more work for me. -- Looney Toons (talk) 13:59, 17 March 2021 (UTC)

Ah, apologies. --Umbire the Phantom (talk) 20:33, 17 March 2021 (UTC)

Whitespace Removal

Not to be a noodge or anything, but why are you putting so much effort into removing space characters from header markups and at the end of sentences, where those of us who learned typing on actual typewriters were trained to put two in a row? That's a whole lot of work for something that makes absolutely no difference to the wiki. -- Looney Toons (talk) 20:26, 30 March 2021 (UTC)

If you want to use the new infobox for books...

... feel free! The documentation for it is right here.

We only have an infobox for books, so far - we're still experimenting with the idea of infoboxes.

IRC and admin rights

The gist is that the person registering it needs to represent it in an official capacity, e.g. someone with access to the domain registration and such.

We had a discussion offline: @Looney Toons, @GethN7 and I are willing to make you an admin (temporarily or permanently, your choice) if you think that will let you set up an IRC project on Libera.chat. We trust you with the rights.

Your take on best way to handle a certain situation involving an intersex character

I was planning to make pages for the anime Majestic Prince and the game Super Robot Wars 30, both of which feature a character with undetermined pronouns. The Japanese script of both uses gender neutral pronouns to refer to them, and in the source show, Ange themselves refuses to disclose their gender. Dialogue from the medical people in the show (as Ange was subjected to genetic engineering like most of the other protagonists) indicates they have a legitimately intersex condition, but never confirms this either way. To be on the safe side, I planned to follow the lead of the dub of Majestic Prince and the English script of SRW 30, which uses they/them pronouns whenever the topic of gender is ever discussed in relation to the character. Unless you know a more respectful way to address this topic, and given it seems to be a personal concern of yours to see this topic is shown respect, I figured I'd defer to your second opinion, if you have one, before I did anything. GethN7 (talk) 04:51, 11 November 2021 (UTC)

I default to "they/them" in instances where pronouns aren't known. --Umbire the Phantom (talk) 06:14, 11 November 2021 (UTC)
Much obliged. Thanks for the advice. GethN7 (talk) 13:56, 11 November 2021 (UTC)

Your edits to the King Richard YMMV page, it is sounding like you're endorsing violence.

I find that very worrying. I will not further edit because I hate flame wars and it is a YMMV page anyway but it is sounding like you find perfectly acceptable to slap people over jokes like that. HornyLikeIAmA14YearOldGirl (talk) 17:29, 26 August 2022 (UTC)

The guy made fun of his wife's illness, and that prompted the slap - whether or not I personally endorse it is irrelevant to the fact that that's what happened. You don't need to be a snowflake about it. --Umbire the Phantom (talk) 07:06, 27 August 2022 (UTC)
I also outright mentioned that it overshadowed his performance, got him an Academy ban, and kicked off controversy about how his punishment was handles versus others' punishments - or lack thereof - because that's what happened.

I believe the trite and played-out turn of phrasing is "facts don't care about feelings"? Because it's weird that you try to go at an edit I made that was actually pretty neutral. --Umbire the Phantom (talk) 20:37, 27 August 2022 (UTC)

Can you explain to me why did you think Bowser's Fury may have been serious?

You corrected my example, calling it poorly researched on top of it, by saying Fury Bowser may have been serious. When it never hurts anyone, never causes any major damage, it was caused by a childish prank, which caused an escalation so big apparently just because Bowser was so angry about having paint on his face? --HornyLikeIAmA14YearOldGirl (talk) 21:20, 3 September 2022 (UTC)

There were several examples I corrected in that pass that my statement applied to - not only were several of them were far worse in that regard, but my uncertainty at whether it was entirely comedic or not was the only change I made to that example.

Please, stop straining yourself for excuses to take things personally so you can constantly leave messages on my talk page. --Umbire the Phantom (talk) 21:36, 3 September 2022 (UTC)

Why did you remove the Kiwifarms quote from the Everything is Racist page?

Just because a site is extinct does not mean the quote must be removed.

There are several books, movies, all kinds of documents that we have only fragments of, and we don't remove citations of it just because they no longer exist. — The preceding comment was added by HornyLikeIAmA14YearOldGirl (talkcontribs)

Let's answer your question with another question:

Why do you insist on rehashing things that were already talked out with actual mods and subsequently taken care of?

It's not like I stopped myself in the middle of all that to go "wait I might be doing too much" and sought out a Talk Page discussion specifically because of it - this sanctimony's getting on my nerves. --Umbire the Phantom (talk) 14:06, 29 September 2022 (UTC)

Animalistic Abomination; ready to launch?

Suggesting that the page you started on Trope Workshop is ready for launch or at least to vote on; pretty sure it has enough on it by now. — The preceding comment was added by HeneryVII (talkcontribs)

On it. --Umbire the Phantom (talk) 00:08, 2 November 2022 (UTC)

The Trope Workshop has plenty of room right now

@Umbire the Phantom, we've been doing a cleanup of the Trope Workshop and there's now plenty of room for new trope candidates. If you think that Word Salad Horror is ready to send to the Workshop, let a mod know and we'll move it there for you. (@Looney Toons and I are the ones most likely to respond quickly to such a request.) --Robkelk (talk) 22:29, 17 December 2023 (UTC)
