Wishbone/Awesome

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • "A Tail In Twain":
    • David makes a functional dog alarm for Wanda's flamingoes, using Wishbone. He asks Wishbone to bark into a microphone, makes some modifications, and plays. Cue an Angry Guard Dog bark that scares Wishbone. It ends up doing the trick, in that it goes off when teenage delinquent Zach rides off on his scooter and Wishbone manages to steal his license plate.
    • Doubling as a heartwarming moment, Max reveals that he found out Zach was the one stealing from the neighbors, including the card that belonged to Joe's dad, and attempted to stop him from taking Wanda's last flamingo. Joe, Sam and David are horrified that Max got punched in the eye, telling him you don't take on a bully alone. They're going to help get proof, safely.
    • Wishbone wants to be part of the action once Max leads them to where he thinks Zach hides the stolen goods. David outfits Wishbone with a security camera, a 1990s version of a GoPro, while Joe is watching through a VR helmet, and tells him he knows what to do. There are laws against people entering areas without a warrant; the same doesn't apply to dogs. When Wishbone gets enough footage, the kids dial the cops.
    • While running from Zach, Wishbone ignores his squeaky toy in favor of rescuing one of Wanda's flamingoes. Doubles as a heartwarming moment since he knows how much that would mean to Wanda.
    • In the Oliver Twist segment, also heartwarming, a Heroic Bystander speaks up when Oliver is about to be sentenced to hard labor for pickpocketing. He says that the boy is innocent, that it was another street urchin who pickpocketed the man in question. The judge remits the sentence, and the man who was robbed apologizes to Oliver. Mr. Brownlow ends the story taking him in, making it a happy ending.
  • "Salty Dog"
    • The kids get locked in a condemned barn, and no one knows where they are, after Sam wanted to investigate and find a legendary horseshoe. Joe and David try to break down the door, but they're kids and reality ensues; they bounce back into the hay with a groan. Wishbone, fortunately, comes up with another plan: dig a hole in the straw that leads to the outside. While the kids are too small to fit, Sam realizes that Wishbone is the right size to crawl through the hole. She tucks the barn pamphlet into his collar and tells him to get help. Wishbone returns to the Talbot household where the parents are fretting. Wanda, who normally hates Wishbone, studies the brochure from his collar. She gets a Eureka Moment and tells the adults they need to get to the barn, and fast.
    • Sam saving Joe and David from the barn just as it catches on fire from a lightning storm. As they're waiting for Wishbone to return with help, Sam looks up and realizes something: the barn's second stories window are open. If she gets through them, she can unbar the doors from the outside. So she climbs the broken-down ladder, gets to the windows, and finds the horseshoe. With the boys' assistance, she gets outside, opens the door, and clears the way.
    • Credit to Joe and David for their moment in this. Just as they start to cough from the smoke, Sam tells them she needs their help to get her outside and safely, tossing them a rope. Over a makeshift pulley, they lift the horseshoe, high enough for her to grab, and lower her safety to the ground outside. Even better, they couldn't see this, and shouting at Sam to hurry because of the fire.
