When Marnie Was There (film)/YMMV
These things about When Marnie Was There (film) are subjective - not everyone will agree with all of them.
- Abandon Shipping: Almost every aspect of the film indicates a potential relationship between Anna and Marnie, and people hopped on this ship. But then The Reveal that Marnie is actually Anna's grandmother happened, and almost everyone abandoned the ship.
- Awesome Art: A fitting trope for Studio Ghibli's swan song before restructuring with lush green hills, realistic water and wind physics, and stellar attention to detail. Prepare to take screenshots. A lot of screenshots.
- Awesome Music: This film is filled with this, such as the ending song Fine on the Outside over the Creative Closing Credits.
- Tear Jerker: Almost the entire film, as it is a psychological drama with heavy emphasis on human emotions.
- Marnie's backstory and how she slowly loses everyone around her as she grows up. She being Anna's grandmother and looking after her, thus, hits especially hard.
- The scene where Anna says goodbye to Marnie. Marnie asking for forgiveness and Anna granting it is especially emotional, helped with beautiful animation.
- The film's animation, backgrounds, and environment can be tear jerking beautiful at times, combining detailed paintings, realistic physics, and eloquent animation.
- It being Ghibli's last film before their restructuring, and the last made while they were regularly producing movies, signalling the end of an era for a beloved creator.
