Essentially, every new user has to go through a period during which their edits are reviewed by the wiki staff -- for spam, vandalism, copyright infringement, or any of a variety of other behaviors contrary to wiki rules. You will find that we pass most things, although failing to create new pages with the necessary markup (which you can do with the ATT Page Creator in the Troping Utilities part of the menu on the left edge of every page) or trying to create new tropes without putting them in our counterpart to YKTTW, the Trope Workshop, will get kicked back to you with helpful advice on how to get it through moderation.
Eventually, if you are a regular enough contributor who causes no issues, you will be given "automoderated" status, and your edits will be immediately applied to the wiki instead of needing to be approved by an admin first. Depending on your edit patterns this can happen as quickly as a few days or can be held off indefinitely; in general it seems to take a couple-few weeks, at most a month.

We have quite a few other guide/help pages but sadly they're a bit unorganized. I'm in the middle of a project to reorganize them all to make them a bit easier to find and navigate, but in the meantime if you have any questions about how things work here feel free to post on any mod's talk page, or in the forums. Add the {{admins}} template to automatically notify all of us on anything you need an answer to. (It'll put a line of "pings" in the message, like the one down below my signature there.)
Finally we strongly recommend that you read How We Do Bans Around Here. This isn't a threat -- this is the wiki policy strictly controlling how and when user bans can be applied by an Admin. We want you to be aware that unlike TVT, we do not ban users on whims or because we're cranky -- and that you know what we do ban people for, and what it takes, so you can avoid future problems.
