Wagyan Land is a series of platforming games starring a robotic dragon named Wagyan, first released on February 9, 1989 for the Famicom in Japan only. Dr. Devil tried to conquer the world, so its up to Wagyan to save it. It was based on an arcade machine from 1987.

The game's success spawned several sequels, spin-offs, and even an audio CD. 15 years after Wagyan Paradise's release, the Wagyan series has been revived with Hirameki Action: Chibikko Wagyan no Ōkina Bōken being released for the Nintendo DS.

The first game was ported to the Game Gear in 1991, with new levels and a different music order.

Games in the series include:

Not to be confused with the Polish town of Wagan (pronounced "vagan").

Wagyan! Wagyan! Wagyan!

  • Distaff Counterpart: Karin from Wagyan Paradise.
  • Genre Shift: While most of the game is a platformer, the bosses are puzzles (most notably, Shiritori).
  • No Shirt, Long Jacket: Lighty from Wagyan Paradise doesn't have a shirt, thus showing his (half-naked) body.
  • The Scream: Wagyan's projectiles are basically the words he shouted. Even Wagyan Paradise adds voice clips of him screaming once he shots the projectiles.
  • Spell My Name with an "S": While the game's main character is actually named Wagyan, the official games had a typo that spells the name as "Wagan".
  • Paradise Planet: As seen in Wagyan Paradise.
  • Protagonist Title: Wagyan, the protagonist of the games, is the title of his first appearance back in a 1987 arcade game.
  • Rise from Your Grave: Wagyan's brother has been deceased, but in both its first NES and SNES entries in the series, he appears as a ghost with bones below his body.
