Totally Spies!/YMMV

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • Base Breaker: Mandy. On the one hand, Mandy is pretty much the textbook example of the Alpha Bitch, being a Jerkass and sporting an annoying voice to boot, not to mention having a Karma Houdini moment from time to time. On the other hand, a lot of fans actually like Mandy, and not just in the Draco in Leather Pants kind of way, using the numerous times where she attempted to treat the girls nicely as evidence that she's not a total Jerkass. She's one of the most frequently shipped characters in the fandom (usually with Clover or Sam), and some even find her "annoying" voice sexy in a weird sort of way (it helps that she's voiced by Jennifer Hale).
    • Britney and Blaine get their fair share of this too, Britney has simultaneously been lambasted for being a Mary Sue and praised for being a likable Mary Sue who gets Hidden Depths later on. Blaine gets bashed for his Sickeningly Sweethearts relationship with Clover, though some fans do see him as pretty much the perfect match for Clover, as long as you don't ship her in one of her many Les Yay pairings.
  • Best Known for the Fanservice: Everybody knows Totally Spies! is about a trio of totally hot college-age girls who're put into totally wild situations. Most of which are Fetish Fuel.
  • Common Knowledge: The whole "Totally Spies is a fetish show" ordeal is exaggerated. Most of the weird situations the Spies are put into are your usual cartoony gags the audience is supposed to laugh at; granted, the Spies are young women (who're also designed to be easy on the eyes), but that's just the way Europe likes to run things.
  • Complete Monster:
    • Helga Von Guggen. It's explained in the most PG way possible that she intends to skin people alive and make their flesh into clothes in order to save money and resources.

"You like it? It's genuine Lawyer..."

  • From Episode “W.O.W.”, Ariel is the owner of a wrestling match who is revealed to be a leader of an ancient clan “The Sisterhood” whose goals is to eradicate all men and inferior women so that the strongest women could reign supreme. Ariel brainwash most of the spectators of the wrestling match including Sam who is a direct descendant of “The Sisterhood” with her power stone and then leads an assault to Beverly Hills. Ariel then went to Mount St. Helens and wait for the full moon so that she could hypnotize all women in the world who is the direct descendant of Sisterhood. When Clover and Alex got close to her plans, Ariel then puts them into the wrestling ring and orders the hypnotized Sam to kill both of them. Misandrist to the supreme and being deluded by her own desires to rule the world, Ariel is one of WOOHP’s and the spies most dangerous adversaries.
  • Crossover Ship: The aforementioned crossover episode with Martin Mystery teased Martin/Alex and M.O.M./Jerry.
  • Draco in Leather Pants: Tim Scam, oh so very much. Mandy to a lesser extent, though it's at least feasible that she could stop being a bitch someday, and it's interesting to pair her with one of the main girls. Scam is straight up evil and he gets paired with Sam in literally hundreds of fanfics.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Jerry gets a computer assistant name Gladis in the third season. Wait, why does that sound familiar? And she turns evil in one episode, almost furthering the resemblance.
  • Les Yay:
    • Alex refers to a "super-hot model". The model is female.
    • Also, the link mentioned in Abridged Series above. May not be official, but hey, those are Les Yay to the max.
    • Sam and Mandy in "Eraser".
    • The episode "Future Shock" might suggest a confirmation of this Trope for the trio themselves, or the opposite, depending on the interpretation. The trio discover that their older selves are roommates (due to the Time Travel plot) but this revelation makes them disappointed that they're in their 30s and still single... But then, does that mean they're single?
  • Paranoia Fuel: WOOHP can get the girls from anywhere.
  • Testosterone Brigade: When a female-targeted kids' show is Playing to The Fetishes as much as this one is, it's inevitable.
