  • Base Breaker: Some Star Wars fans see this film as a Disney throwing out everything that had been established in previous films (if the ramming maneuver was so effective, why hadn't it ever been used before?) and/or being explicitly anti-male.
  • Canon Sue: Rey was perceived by this from Star Wars fans. Mainly to: Knows more about the Force and how to control it better than Luke freaking Skywalker - And the previous Jedi and Sith, goes to the Dark Side without any side affects, is questionably paired up to romance Kylo Ren (Who did mind torture on her in the previous film), and was arguably made perfect and can do no wrong.
  • Character Derailment: Luke Skywalker in the OT was a guy who will risk the galaxy for the possibility of redeeming his father who turned to evil before he was born. Luke Skywalker in The Last Jedi will try to murder a teenager in their sleep for a prophecy.
  • Critical Dissonance: The reporters and critics praised this movie as if it's their waifu. The audience not so much.
    • It's to the point that they dismissed any valid criticism and problems about the movie by telling long time Star Wars fans that "It's just for kids."
      • Ignoring or outright dismissing that Disney made movies for generations that both children and adults adored and love.
  • Fan Dumb: Sticks to "The Last Jedi" like glue and bashes anyone with legitimate criticism.
  • Fanon Discontinuity: As soon fans discovered how Luke dies on this movie, it quickly entered this territory as the original trilogy hero dies in what they perceive to be an un-glorious, lonely death.
  • Idiot Plot: Unlike the other Star Wars films, where the stupidity was isolated to a few scenes; it affects the entire movie.
    • To kick things off, the movie begins with Poe Dameron prank-calling Hux to stall for time. Hux, being an high-ranking officer in the First Order should've immediately sent his fleets TIE Fighters after him instead of just falling for the bait. Instead, Hux only responds after his pride was wounded and the defensive turrets of the Fulminatrix is in Poe's crosshairs. To rub salt into the wound, even Captain Canady points this out since the Fulminatrix is already a high-priority target.
    • Not only that, the whole subplot regarding Poe Dameron is incredibly stupid. It's supposedly about Poe becoming less of a hothead and more considerate of his orders, but it falls down in pretty much every aspect:
      • The inciting incident is Poe refusing to pull back after disabling the anti fighter turrets on a dreadnought. Said dreadnought is equipped with cannons that can kill pretty much anything the rebels have in one shot, regardless of shields. In order to destroy the dreadnought they need to mount a costly attack, the death toll of which is apparently Poe's fault, even though if they didn't take out the dreadnought, the rebels would've been followed through hyperspace and wiped out instantly. No one ever acknowledges this. On top of that, Leia almost gets killed, so she's replaced with Admiral Holdo, who refuses to let Poe (and anyone else, apparently) know about her plan for their survival, so this ends up with Poe staging a mutiny against her, after the loss of two major ships and their captains, with Holdo still refusing to do anything other than run away. This mutiny is somehow proof of Poe being reckless. Skip forward a bit and Holdo's plan turns out to be a secret evacuation to a planet called Crait, which ends up in catastrophic failure because the "cloaked shuttles" used for evacuation get discovered by the First Order, resulting in most of the shuttles being wiped out. All of this culminates in Poe aborting a Rebellion saving counterattack because he learned how not to be reckless, even though the situation is "either 15 people die or the entire Rebellion dies", thus completing his "arc".
    • The use of hyperspace as a weapon is by far the stupidest and most damaging moment to the entire saga. It's so anathema to the setting that it pretty much destroys the entire "Wars" aspect of the "Star Wars" title.
  • The Scrappy: Rose Tico, mainly due to preventing Finn from doing a heroic sacrifice, which would have saved the whole rebellion from the First Order.
  • Unfortunate Implications: The Reylo (Rey x Kylo) ship is giving a similar message that can be found in Twilight that it's "empowering" for women to submit to an abusive relationship if the man is hot. Considering that:
    • In the previous movie, Kylo tortured Rey and doesn't make any serious indication that he will come back to the Light Side (Despite him being conflicted).
    • Rey thinking that she can save Kylo, despite the abuse he did to her earlier and the previous film.
    • Now with Force-Bond in the picture, there's a connection betwixt them.
    • It Gets Worse considering that this is now a current trend in 2019 and later with Disney (and the rest of Hollywood), is say that for in order for girls and women to "fix bad boys" they have to use love.
      • Which translates to just stay in an abusive relationship...He'll come around...Eventually.
      • People who argue that there's problems with the "bad boys need love to be fix" are dismissed as "kink shaming" or "not understanding."
      • More depressing is that Disney's older and other movies aimed at kids like "Frozen", "Aladdin", and "Enchanted" have a better pro-women message and encouraging healthier dating habits, but they're deem as "not with the times", "too kiddie", or outright ignored.
      • Finn being reduce to a joke character, which is a downgrade of what he has done in the Episode 7, like escaping the lethal army that he was a part of (a feat that would cost him his life in a milisecond), taking on Kylo Ren, despite that it's unknown if he's a guy without Force powers or didn't tapped into the Force yet, and defending himself, despite that he wants to run away from it all and take Rey with him.
        • This is viewed as having racist undertones, since in Episode 8, Finn was made to be a clueless guy who doesn't know what a Grey and Gray Morality is, being degraded into something of a joke (like his emergence from the banta tank), and more cowardly than before, just to name a few of his downgrade.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: The OG Star Wars gang had little to no interaction, like Luke not giving a friendly greeting and hug to C3P-0.
  • All the characters, mainly Rey, Kylo Ren, Snoke, and such, are way better in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."
