Proposal was unanimously rejected. No image change is being made.

The current image is of the character Lethe from Fire Emblem Tellius, and is also her image on the character pages for that work. (TV Tropes gave us two copies of the image for Fire Emblem Tellius and Catgirl; I've kept the higher-resolution one and deleted the duplicate.) Since it is from a video game, it's still under copyright.

Commons has Neko Wikipe-tan.svg, which has a few advantages:

• It's available under a CC-BY-SA-2.5 license.
• It's a vector image, which makes it easily scalable to whatever size we want.
• The character is posing rather than simply standing.

It has a couple of disadvantages, too:

• The character is posing in a stereotypical "cat" pose.
• Wikipe-tan is closely associated with Wikipedia. (Mind you, we don't have an ATT-tan character.)

Replace or not?

But I am putting the fact that Ghibli's archive of common sense reusable images includes a good replacement out there.

Honestly, I think the combination of the current image and the caption works very nicely. I'd like to see that synergy preserved with any replacement image, which it isn't with the alternatives proposed so far.

Think I'd want to keep.

Looks like this proposal has been quite thoroughly shot down. We're keeping the current image.
