Call for launch vote

The trope has a couple dozen examples in addition to what it had when it was proposed, a good description, three relevant categories, and a relevant image. I think it's ready for the big time.

Vote to launch

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

As it's one of my candidates I didn't want to propose the launch, but now that Rob has, yes, launch.

Haggishunter (talkcontribs)

Yes, looks very launchable to me.

GentlemensDame883 (talkcontribs)

Vote to launch.

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

It's been a week with five votes to launch and zero against. Launching.

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

Launched and partially entry-pimped (while listening to the soundtrack of Kamichu!); I only got as far as the entries under "Literature" before I needed to do something else. But, hey, that's two-thirds of the way.

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

Remainder of entry-pimping done, excepting (of course) the works that are redlinks.

Summary by Kuma

Looney Tunes helped resolve the discussion on spirits in question.

Kuma (talkcontribs)

I want to know about something before posting another possible example. Are the bodhisattvas deities? From what I researched, the bodhisattvas are Buddhist deities who obtained the highest form of enlightenment but delayed their ascension into paradise due to their compassion for humans without enlightenment.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

Allow me to point you at the the National Geographicā€'ā€s page on Buddhism:

Buddhists do not believe in any kind of deity or god, although there are supernatural figures who can help or hinder people on the path towards enlightenment.

Those "supernatural figures" -- which include but are not limited to the Bodhisattvas -- are not gods, although they are spiritual entities. The Bodhisattvas are beings who have acheived enlightenment and removed themselves from the cycle of suffering and reincarnation. They are not gods, they are perfected spirits no longer bound to the world. Gods tend to be intimiately connected to the world -- they are gods of things which they control or respond to in the physical world, and demonstrate their power above and beyond mortals accordingly. A bodhisattva has escaped the world and has no power over it or any part of it -- nor do they need it. They choose to return to teach others, not to wield power over them. An imperfect analogy: A bodhisattva is a prisoner who has found a secret path out of a prison, who once free goes back into the prison to help others escape. This does not suddenly turn them into the prison warden.

Alright, thanks, that helps a lot. It was very enlightening, pun intended.
