  • And the Fandom Rejoiced: Tim Gaines returning for the 25th Anniversary Tour, recreating the original lineup.
  • Crowning Music of Awesome: Plenty; examples include To Hell with the Devil and Soldiers Under Command.
  • Dead Horse Music Genre: If they're not being hated for playing Christian rock, they're being hated for playing glam metal.
  • Ear Worm
  • Germans Love David Hasselhoff: Huge in Central and South America. The band also has a following in Japan, especially after noted Japanese rock critic Masanori Ito promoted them through the magazine Burrn! and his radio program.
  • Misattributed Song: Anything by any other 80s Christian metal band can and will be mistaken for Stryper.
  • Periphery Demographic: Michael Sweet mentioned in a 2018 interview that they even had atheist and Satanist fans in their ranks, which is greatly ironic given the band's "To hell with the devil" message. Nevertheless they still stand for their message of Christian positivity.
  • They Changed It, Now It Sucks: Against the Law, in which the band ditched the yellow and black spandex, strong evangelical lyrics, and the iconic logo and verse. The Christian fanbase called the band out for selling out for more mainstream success.
    • Reborn was also criticized by fans for being more contemporary than past albums.
  • Unfortunate Implications: "Stryper" means "strangles" in Swedish.
    • The album God Damn Evil gained controversy in 2018 as Christian retail chains refused to stock the album, and some openly Christian rock music fans balked at the title for being too profane, thinking that it's using God's name in vain.[1] Michael Sweet refuted the criticism in an interview however, viewing that the title was taken wholly out of context and stated "Although we respect their decision and what's done is done, it's frustrating to see something that's meant for good get misinterpreted and misunderstood." Sweet denied any intent to name the album as such for shock value, but rather as a blunt prayer request calling on God to denounce or damn all the evil in the world, which the band felt is becoming increasingly prevalent in recent years.
