Storage Wars/YMMV

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • Accidental Innuendo: Barry wins a locker with a bid of $1,525, and it has a wooden scuplture of a head. He takes the head to get it appraised while he consigns the rest of the locker to Dave for sale. The appraiser tells Barry the head's worth $6,000 in a gallery, but sees Barry's not going to sell it. Later, getting his share of the consigned stuff from Dave, Barry tells Dave, "$1,500 is a lot to pay for some head." Dave can't stop giggling.
  • Beat Him At His Own Game: Darrell and Jarrod trying to locker-block Dave, and Dave realizing they're trying to use tactics against him which he'd used earlier on them.
  • Don't Try This At Home: Playing the Drinking Game Brandi made from how often Laura says "folks" will probably kill your liver in a single episode, and will probably be the end of you and your friends if you play it during one of A & E's occasional marathons of the show.
    • In one behind-the-scenes episode, Dave comments that fans of the show have come to auctions and tried to compete with him, but most of the time they end up taking a loss because of their inexperience.
  • Downer Ending: The second Santa Ana auction, where everyone who bought a locker lost money. See Know When to Fold'Em in the main page for recap.
  • Evil Twin:
    • Mark Balelo, a big bidder with a big wallet, made for a possibly "evil version" of Dave. It was mentioned in "San Burrito" that compared to Mark, Dave looked like a Saint.
    • Nabila Hannis takes Dave's Jerkass/SmugSnake tendencies and turns them Up to Eleven.
  • Foe Yay: Dave and Darrell, implied by Barry in "Skullduggery".

Barry: "The couples are at it again today, Brandi and Jarrod, Dave and Darrell..."

  • Hope Spot / Tempting Fate: Darrell comments in one episode on how good a day it's going to be since resident Jerkass Dave is nowhere to be seen...and then Mark Balelo, the only person in the show's history to be an even bigger Jerkass, arrives.
  • Indy Ploy: When Stewart Copeland of "The Police" doesn't give that favorable an appraisal of Barry's drum set, Barry realizes that a drum set autographed by Stewart Copeland might just be worth several times that. It just about triples the value, giving Barry enough profit to win the episode.
  • Jerkass: Everyone (possibly save Barry) shows shades of this.
    • Dave drives up the price for giggles.
    • Darrell antagonizes Dave constantly, which sometimes pushes into this.
      • His "Newport Con Gallery" hat pushed him into this, mocking Dave's business (not that he didn't deserve it)
      • Once as a tactic, Brandon wore a shirt that not only mocked Dave's business, but it also mocked Brandi and Jarrod's as well.
        • Since Darrell didn't have a store of his own the others could defame through wearable libel, YMMV in that it was either a cowardly underhanded move (especially in this age of cyberbullying) or an attempt to challenge and win a mind game against someone who had it coming. Does make you wonder if "It takes a bigger one to know one" doesn't apply here.
    • Dave and Jarrod got into it on "Almost the Greatest Show on Earth," and it caused Dave to fume and buy a unit well over the value thanks to Jarrod recklessly jacking up the bid.
      • This was a Xanatos Roulette as Dave might have been meaner and drop the unit on Jarrod with a very big potential loss if he had let Jarrod have it at his bids of $6,500 or $7,500 (the unit's value was $5,775) and Jarrod had already WON one unit before this, so he might not have had enough cash to cover it.
    • Nabila is Dave's Distaff Counterpart, except she's more of a Jerkass and a Smug Snake than he is. Dave at least has some redeeming moments of Jerk with a Heart of Gold; the next one Nabila has will be the first.
  • Most Annoying Sound: Dave's signature "YUUUUP!" has been known to severely annoy other bidders, on more than one occasion.
  • Squick: Some items found in lockers can be this.
    • At one point, it's mentioned that Darrell has become a minor celebrity among the bidders because the locker he bought ended up containing a dead body.
  • Villain Antagonist: Mark Balelo in his appearances, which turns Dave into a Villain Protagonist when they clash. Dave may be a Jerkass, but as far as the others are concerned, he's their JerkAss.
  • The Woobie: Surprisingly, Dave Jr. in "Live and Let Bid", after he used his life savings to buy a locker. Every interview cut with him had him look like he was about to start crying at any moment.
    • He got better in "Unclaimed Baggage." When he loses a locker to Barry, he still has enough smarts to offer Barry a chance to consign with him and Dave Sr. Barry accepts as it would save him headaches and backaches, and leads to the CMOF for the episode's Stinger, where Barry admits "$1500 is a lot to pay for some head."
