Scott Pilgrim/Trivia

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

Comic:

  • Fan Nickname: The G-Man, for Gideon. Something of an Ascended Meme in the movie.
  • God Never Said That: No, Julie does not have an unrequited crush on Scott.
  • Name's the Same: Stephen Stills shares his name with a real-life guitarist. The fact that his roommate is known as "Young Neil" suggests that this may be on purpose.
  • Reality Subtext: O'Malley was first inspired to make the comic when he learned that his girlfriend (now wife) had three ex-boyfriends who were all named Matthew, and he wondered if they could form some kind of league. He was also going to name the second ex Matthew Lee, but thought that was too far to go for such an inside joke.
  • What Could Have Been: There are many, but most of them are really insignificant.
    • When Lynette punched the highlights out of Knives' hair, she was so badly (and socially) injured that a doctor said she will never be cool again.
    • Another is when Wallace and Kim dance in the beach at book four. Kim was smiling.
    • The third volume's cover art was going to be the main characters standing in the middle of Toronto, the fourth volume's cover art was going to feature Lisa Miller winking in a blue fluffy background, and the fifth volume's cover art was going to be Ramona in a pink sweater looking down at the ground on an empty white background.
  • Write Who You Know: Bryan Lee O'Malley was dating an American woman (cartoonist/comic book creator Hope Larson, now his wife) and in a garage band when he started the series.

Video Game:

  • Colbert Bump: Anamanaguchi and Paul Robertson each got one.
    • Unfortunately, the unknowing find out too late that Paul Robertson's work can be rather incredibly graphic.
  • Fan Nickname: Some of the moves you can pull off with the weapons and other special moves; e.g. beating someone down with a cardboard box is known as a "Hobo Special".
  • Recursive Adaptation: Not directly, but the original Scott Pilgrim novels was so steeped in video game tropes and references that it's a similar idea.
  • Urban Legend of Zelda: People are already trying to figure out how to get to the Mario-style Green Pipes scattered throughout the overhead screen.
