- Complete Monster: Joshua and Carrick, at the very least.
- Darkness-Induced Audience Apathy: Let's see. Josh is a serial killer and a Complete Monster who happens to be killing other Complete Monsters. The Front Line is actually a group of super-villains pretending to be superheroes, and controls just about everything. The world governments prove to be worse than The Front Line, because they use a monster to kill other monsters, and then destroy each other at the end of the story. Good thing Warren Ellis kept this story short.
- Well, the governments may only be that bad because they are dependent of the Front Line, so it can be read as an analysis of power structures. Regarding the conflict between Josh and the Front Line, both may be evil, but they are different kinds of evil, i.e. Chaotic Evil and Lawful Evil respectively, so the conflict is that between different philosophies. Ultimately the question of the comic is how much destruction one is willing to suffer in exchange for freedom and autonomy.
