  • Dummied Out: Reptile and Ermac were originally going to be playable characters via DLC, but the DLC in question was cancelled because of the COVID pandemic. They are confirmed to be playable in the 12th game.
  • Refitted for Sequel: Ed Boon revealed that Spawn and the Terminator were intended for X. They appear in this game.
  • Role Reprisal: Cary Hiroyuki-Tagawa, Christopher Lambert, Linden Ashby and Bridgette Wilson returned to voice their 1995 selves with Tagawa voicing present Shang Tsung as well.
  • Talking to Himself:
    • Richard Epcar voices both Raiden and the Joker.
    • Steve Blum voices both Sub-Zero and Baraka.
    • Kari Wahlgren voices both Kitana and Mileena. It makes sense since Mileena is a clone of Kitana.
  • What Could Have Been: Arnold Schwarzenegger would have voiced the Terminator in the game but decided to work on Predator: Hunting Grounds.
