Mind Control University

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

Imagine a school that invites students - humans and nonhumans alike - from all corners of the multiverse. A school that then proceeds to teach them super-science engineering, magic, psychic powers, chi-empowered martial arts, and more - all with a focus on mind-control.

Then, imagine that the policies of that very same school deliberately and openly encouraged the students to plot and scheme against each other, each student trying to build themselves a brainwashed harem composed of their classmates.

That's the premise of Mind Control University, a quest on Anonkun. The quest takes place from the perspective of Daphne Miller, a shy, socially awkward wallflower whose harmless appearance belies her ambition and determination to brainwash the other students of her all-girl class.

It can be read here. Warning: Not Safe for Work.

Tropes used in Mind Control University include:
  • Adaptational Heroism: Emma Barnes of all people. In Worm, she turns from best friend to bully due to some trauma and a desire to be strong. Here, she is literally mind controlled into being horrible to Taylor by a psychic classmate.
  • Alternate History: Several of the students come from such.
    • Daphne herself comes from a world virtually identical to ours... except that catgirls exists.
    • Alexis comes from a world where Hitler was defeated very early in World War II, leading to the Allies fighting and defeating to the USSR, leading to a 20th century with no Cold War.
    • Taylor comes from a world where the existence of Psychic Powers exacerbated Cold War paranoia, leading to intense isolationism in the nations of the world.
    • Ashley comes from a world where Camelot never fell, and King Arthur has become the immortal ruler of the world.
    • Geraldine comes from a Steampunk timeline where Napoleon conquered much of the world and left an empire that's still standing.
  • Author Appeal: Would you believe that the QM has a mind control fetish?
  • Brainwashed: Obviously.
  • Bread, Eggs, Breaded Eggs:
I'm fine. Just not fond of bullies. Or teachers. Or bully teachers.
—Taylor
  • Bound and Gagged: Daphne tends to be... cautious while brainwashing a classmate.
  • Crisis of Faith: Joyce was a fundamentalist, time will tell if she goes full apostate or becomes merely more moderate.
  • College Is High School Part 2: Every student that goes to Daphne's campus meets each other and they all attend the same classes.
  • Crystal Dragon Jesus: The doctrine and beliefs of the church of the crystal dragon is probably based off of Christianity (in a Doylist sense). The Crystal Dragon is however unquestionably real, arguably a god (his multiverse designation is "planetary guardian", whether that is a type of "god" or not is disputed), seems to only care about his world, and even then only shows up in a crisis like a Hitler analog about to start a war and wage genocide. That said, there are humans that claim to be prophets of his, some of which have predicted things that later turned out to be true (those predictions might just be a coincidence, not necessarily an indication of precognition). Joyce was a fundamentalist who resented the main stream crystal dragon faith for cherry picking, but eventually becomes much more moderate, if not outright full apostate (she's going through a Crisis of Faith and it's not clear where she will precisely land).
  • Dead Person Conversation: The Dark Empress got a crystal ball that lets her talk to people that are dead. Which in a touching scene, after yet another stressful day of trying do good while looking evil, she uses to talk to her parents. We only see the Dark Empress's greeting though.
  • Deicide: One day Professor Norton came into class upset because she had to commit deicide. Doing so involved working with people that she had a mutual dislike of.
  • Detonation Moon: Part one of committing Norton commiting Deicide was blowing up the moon.
  • Fantasy Kitchen Sink: Daphne's classmates include an orc girl, a Catgirl, a paladin serving a god of Good, a werewolf, a vampire, and that’s not getting into the teachers or the rest of the Multiverse.
  • Fantastic Foxes: Tammy is a Kitsune and Asaka is an anthropomorphic fennec fox with psychic powers.
  • Hurl It Into the Sun: Part of the deicide was putting the goddess in-front of a multi-megaton asteroid that was going towards the sun at .4 c (i.e. 2/5ths the speed of light)
  • Hypnotic Eyes: Mild version with Joyce.
  • Kill Sat: Fixit's world has one and she's not afraid to use it either.
  • I Know You Know I Know/Gambit Pileup: Inevitable in a school for teaching prospective mind controllers how to brainwash each other.
  • Incompatible Orientation: Averted so far; Daphne's class is deliberately composed of students who fit into each other's preferred gender (i.e., lesbians and bisexual girls with a preference for females).
  • This Is the Part Where:
    • This is the part where Mistress [Venela] insults you a lot, but don't let it upset you.
    • Move the word Is to the left and turn it into a question and you have something Geraldine said. Specifically:

So, is this the part where you brainwash us?

  • Lawyer-Friendly Cameo and Captain Ersatz:
  • Magically-Binding Contract: Daphne makes one with Velena. Well, they are the signatories. Their magic capable slaves are the ones that actually make it.
  • Memory Gambit: Shows up multiple times, usually as security measures. For example if you capture Daphne she won't even know she has slaves.
  • Mind Control Device: Starting with, but not limited to, Daphne's trance-inducing helmet.
  • Mind Rape: Ruby's slaves sometimes have this experience.
  • More Than Mind Control: One of the lessons at MCU is that it's best to go for this - if mind-control is paired with manipulation actually fit for the subject's mind, the mind-control itself tends to go more smoothly.
  • Not Safe for Work: It may be light on actual sexual content, but it's still smut.
  • Plot With Porn
  • Psychic Powers: One of the disciplines taught at MCU.
  • Redemption Rejection: Kate tried to convince Daphne to not mind control people against their will. Didn't work.
  • Reed Richards Is Useless: Averted with Daphne, who is technically more like plagiarizing than inventing (more cause it's a lot faster and because she is a busy person rather than laziness). In fact she is pretty cavalier about introducing new technology to worlds. For example, even after Asaka told Daphne that technological advancement occurring too fast could be disastrous, Daphne she handed off a printing press to the Dark Empress who's world doesn't have printing without warning them about how dangerous it could be (In our world the printing press was one of the things that enabled the Protestant Reformation, which in the short run was pretty bloody. Not saying something like that happened in East Asia where both block printing and moveable type were first invented though).
  • Religion of Evil: The church of the god Gargantor, a god of fate and tyranny. Gargantor's cult strives for a world of pure tyranny, where everyone is oppressed under his eternal domination. His cult in Helan's world is the Shadow Cult -- a terrorist organization dedicated to spreading tyranny in Gargantor's name.
  • Rule of Sexy
  • Screw Destiny: Absolutely possible. The reason Guan Young went to MCU was she was fated to win against some evil in a few years and she thought she was so weak that unless she got stronger she would lose in spite of the prophecy. Lady Emerald was fated to be slain by Ruby when Ruby became 18 but that didn't happen either. Gargantor's "Year of Hell" prophecy was thwarted.
  • Sealed Evil in a Duel/Sealed Good in a Can/Sealed Evil in A Can: Selena went into the moon and brought the End with her. No one has figured out how to let Selena out without letting out the End too.
To this day, Selena remains there, both prisoner and warden, her constant sacrifice keeping us all alive and protected from the End.
—Helen

I love her the way a Disney princess loves the one-dimensional handsome aristocrat she marries on their second meeting, unless it's a more recent movie.

  • Villain Protagonist: Well, Anti-Villain at least. Daphne has sympathetic qualities, wants to make the world a better place, and cares about the well-being of her harem, but she's still warping peoples minds for what she admits are entirely selfish reasons. And that's not going into the physical rapes she's subjecting the girls she brainwashed to.
