In Japan, Large Hams are known as "daikon", meaning "white radish". And Now You Know.

Now, on to business...

Bleach

  • Unless your name is either Ulquiorra, Starrk, and Harribel, you simply can't be a member of the Espada and not be damn hammy. The most triumphant example is Barragan, um, BarraHAM Luisenbarn, the Second Espada: his Villainous Breakdown before he dies was pure, pure HAM.
  • Yammy Rialgo's powers are fueled by rage, which he gets from pretty much everything that doesn't directly please him. Aaroniero's acting as Kaien is purely hammy, since he laughs maniacally half the time while taunting Rukia.
  • Szayel Aporro may be one of the most triumphant examples.
  • Zommari actually lost his fight because of how hammy he was.
  • Grimmjow gave us "ESPADA SIX: IS GRIMMJOW AGAIN! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!" And who could forget Nnoitra's "I AM THE MOST POWERFUL ESPADA EVER CREATED!"?
  • Also, there's the most... um, colorful member of Barragan's Fraccion, the very quirky and surprisingly popular Charlotte Cuulhorne. Only in death he wasn't hammy.
    • Harribel's Amazon Brigade make up for their mistress's stoic personality quite nicely. Sung-Sun is rather quiet and snarky, but Apacci and Mila Rose simply can't be in the same panel without yelling at each other.
  • In the side of the good guys we have Ichigo's father Isshin, with his over the top attacks and either crazy or perverted antics toward his three kids. GOOOOOD MORRRRNINNNNNG ICHIGOOOOOOOOO!!!!
    • Ishida's father Ryuuken is a subversion. His kid Uryuu can be pretty hammy, but he's The Stoic.
      • In regards to Ishida's hamminess: "Tell Aizen that a Quincy has come! For the one you truly have to fear is not a Shinigami but a Quincy!"
      • And for all the hamminess, boy did Ishida's words come back to haunt Hueco Mundo later! That's right, not only is Ishida a Large Ham, but he's a prophetic one, too!
  • Don Kanonji.

"Spirits are ALWAYS WITH YOU!" *pose* "BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"

  • Even Aizen himself get this. In the fight vs Ichigo.
  • *AHEM* Who is lucky? I am lucky. None so lucky but me! That's right, I said Me~ Seriously Ikkaku's dialogue is either borderline Narm, Large Ham or Crazy Awesome.
  • No mention of Arrancar Grand Fisher? You know you cannot win with your zanpakuto, because as we all know - The size of one's Zanpakuto is directly proportional to one's SPIRIT ENERGYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!
  • When in a good fight, Kenpachi jumps onto the ham bandwagon as well.
  • Mayuri Kurotsuchi, as it befits the local Mad Scientist and owner of really crepy Nightmare Faces, can get pretty hammy when he wants to. Not just that, but his and Szayel Aporro's fight was finished with a loud and merciless "The Reason You Suck" Speech that was porky to the n-th degree. Including jewels like "I SPIT ON PERFECTION" and "HOW DARE YOU CALL YOURSELF A MAN OF SCIENCE?!"
  • Among the Fullbringers, we have Giriko. But ONLY when he's Drunk with Power. Riruka Dokugamine and Moe Shishigawara also had their hammy moments as well.
  • In regards to the newly-introduced Vandereich, while Ivan Azgiaro was pretty porky and that got him to be kicked off Ichigo's bed among other things, Kirge Opie seems to be where the ham is at. Not to mention, the Unnamed Leader is so huge and imposing-looking that he manages to be the kind of ham that doubles as The Stoic.

Code Geass

  • Lelouch Lamperouge, especially once he gets his Zero costume. Lampshaded almost immediately when another character comments that they didn't expect the genius strategist to be such a ham. Only really applies when he's in his Zero guise.
    • Lelouch can be more of a ham without the mask, and seeing the relatively low-key Lelouch act like Zero in R2 episode 20 is actually rather terrifying.
  • What about the Emperor? Even when the man whispers, his voice booms (thank you Norio Wakamoto and Michael McConnohie). Of course, the man is literally larger than life, so it's to be expected.
    • Even with Wakamato/McConnohie as a father, Lelouch manages to out-ham him in Episode 21 of R2: One month after mind-controlling God into getting rid of the Emperor, he calmly strides into the imperial throne room wearing his school uniform, calmly sits down on the throne, and declares himself Emperor. After The Dragon spinkicks the guards away, Lelouch uses his Geass to force all present to acknowledge him as Emperor, sitting back with a smirk on his face as they chant "ALL HAIL LELOUCH!".Even better in Japanese.
  • Jeremiah "Orange" Gottwald starts off the series looking pretty slick and arrogant, but after nearly getting killed, and turned into a cyborg, he seems to suffer from brain damage getting hammier with each passing appearance, up until the very end of the series. ALL HAIL BRITTANNIAAAAAAAAA!!!, indeed. And "Take this! The storm of my LOYALTY!". Bonus points for being voiced by Ken Narita and Crispin Freeman.
    • Don't forget about second season, especially his fight with Anya.
  • Hell, Code Geass is so made of this trope that even the soundtrack can be hammy. See? Not that we're complaining.
  • Code Geass is full of Magnificent Hamstards.

Dragon Ball

  • Dragon Ball's own group of hams, the Ginyu Force.
  • Or, for that matter, teenage Gohan's attempts to become a Large Ham through his "Great Saiyaman" identity in the Buu saga?
    • Gohan's training with the Z-Sword. Where he's swinging at nothing and then just stops, raises it to the air, points at it and starts yelling "HOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!"
  • Or, you know, Vegeta? Goku's power level is not a meme for nothing.
  • Vegeta was notable for this but most of the villains and a good chunk of the heroes also had their moments of this trope.

Cell: [while gloating about how he's going to absorb the androids, turns to #18] And you, my little peach... I'm going to gobble you up!

Cell: Greetings out there in TV Land! My name is Cell and I am here to announce my upcoming tournament! But first, for those who have labeled me as a quote-unquote monster: As you can see, that term no longer applies. I have achieved the perfect body! Go on, admire it. Admit it, you know you're jealous.

Fullmetal Alchemist

  • This trope has been passed down the Armstrong family line FOR GENERATIONS!
    • Whenever Major Alex Armstrong and his sister General Olivia Armstong are together they will inevitably enter a raging battle of Ham-to-Ham Combat.
    • Major Alex Louis Armstrong: THE ONLY MAN ALLOWED TO SPARKLE!!!!!!!!!!
      • When Major Armstrong meets Sig Curtis, they communicate entirely through muscle flexing and sparkles. Then they kick Sloth's ass; they kill him until he dies. It is awesome.
    • If anything, compared to the previous series, Christopher Sabat turned Armstrong's hamminess Up to Eleven in the Brotherhood dub... by the first episode! It's every bit as amazingly awesome and/ or hilarious as it sounds.
  • Flame vs. Fullmetal. You know the lines.

"When I'm Führer, there will be changes. On that day, all female officers will be required to wear... TINY MINISKIRTS!!!

    • Bonus points: the voice actor based his performance in those scenes on his failed audition for the role of... Armstrong.
  • Neither Izumi nor Sig Curtis are hammy by themselves, However, when they are together they have shared intense moments of loving passion for one another, even in the heat of battle. In those moments, their hamminess is immeasurable.
  • Jerso and Zampano in the final episode when they exclaim how they're going to travel with Al. They essentially pull a Maito Gai pose.
  • THE TERRIBLE SERIAL KILLER, FEARED BY ALL: BARRY THE CHOPPER!!!! A possible visual pun occurs when he introduces himself to Al. Actual hams fill the background.

Gund-Ham... er, Gundam

"You're all so dependant on Veda. You don't have what it takes to beat us anymore!"
"HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! THE RESURRECTION OF THE SUPER-SOLDIER!"

  • Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory's Anavel Gato with Four words: SOLOMON! I HAVE RETURNED!!!! * wipes out EFSF fleet with a nuke*
  • The Big Bad of Turn A Gundam,Gym Ghingnham, manages to take complete control of any scene he is in. Takehito Koyasu's performance is so amazingly over-the-top that it has to be seen to be believed; Gym remains one of the most entertaining Gundam villains to watch just because of the utterly bombastic ham he exudes.

UNIVEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRSSSEEEEEEEE!!!

Yu-Gi-Oh!

Dimitri: "What I'm going to do is play this -- Dedication Through Light And Darkness! It takes Dark Magician, and turns him into something even more powerful, the legendary Dark Magician of Chaos. Chaos Magician, RISE!...Oh, and in case you haven't done the math yet, Bladedge doesn't have the most attack points anymore - Chaos Magician does!"
Jaden: "Twenty-eight hundred!?"
Dimitri: "YES! Now watch them all in action! Scepter Strike!"

Marik: "FOOLISH FOOL! There are no women in Yu-Gi-Oh! There are only extremely girly men, and I am the most girly of them all!"
Pegasus: "Keep telling yourself that."

Other Works

  • Aion in Chrono Crusade very, very much applies. In his first appearance, he is introduced by Biblical Plagues out of nowhere, including a black sun and a red moon. When he first appears on stage, he is introduced by an earth-quake, and immediately proclaims that he will fight against God, and Hannibal Lectures everyone, pointing out how he 'saved' them from God.
    • Rosette Christopher also counts, due to her being extremely Hot-Blooded and often overly dramatic. In the manga she occasionally makes Aion look relatively restrained in comparison.
  • Bobobo-Bo Bo-bobo. Every single character at every single moment. For proof, watch the dub. The Ham starts at 0:00 and runs all the way to the end.(video removed due to copyright claim)
  • Schwartzwald from The Big O. In contrast to the largely taciturn cast, Schwartzwald delivers long, rambling monologues VERY LOUDLY, often while setting things on fire. Also applies to Beck.
    • After becoming the pilot of Big Fau, Alex Rosewater gets a number of hammy lines as well.
  • Mazinger Z: Kouji is the poster boy for Hot-Blooded, No Indoor Voice The Hero with a tendence to make dramatic speeches accompanying them with dramatic gestures. However, he was completely out-hammed by Big Bad Dr. Hell. After all, Kouji was capable to talk in a normal fashion... but Hell always needed acting in the most dramatic way possible, constantly Milking the Giant Cow while he made dramatic speeches seated on his throne or on the top of a wind-battered cliff overlooked by the full Moon.
    • Great Mazinger: Tetsuya could be a Large Ham... but The Dragon Ankoku Daishogun/Great General of Darkness was large in ALL aspects. Not only he was a thirty-meters-tall, bearded Badass with a flowing Badass Cape trailing behind him and a BFS dangling from his belt, but his dramatic speeches and Badass Boasts ("The strength of the General of Darkness, commander of seven armies of Mykene… Now it shall descend upon you!") were legendary.
    • UFO Robo Grendizer: Unlike Kouji and Tetsuya, Duke was calm and reserved most of the time. however, he still WAS a Hot-Blooded character, and when something fired him up or got him riled up or angry, he easily was a larger ham than them.
  • Yu Yu Hakusho has quite a few of these. Hiei, during his time as the first Big Bad, arrogantly gloats nonstop from the moment he shows up to the moment he's defeated. After his defeat, however, he turns to the good side and becomes The Stoic instead. The much later villain Seaman is another character who has incredibly hammy while a villain but pretty normal afterwards. Of course, the biggest ham in the series is Suzuka The Beautiful Suzuka, who, despite having a fair bit of villainous lead-in time, and having a hell of a lot of flash (in more ways than one), receives a beating of a lifetime for his trouble.     • There's a case for Kuwabara as well,especially when he talks to Yukina. Of course he's kinda voiced by Christopher Sabat so it's to be expected.
  • KamHAMina from Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. Most of the main characters get a moment of Hot-Blooded or five, but Kamina's tendency to be this way constantly makes him ask "WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK I AM ORDERED THE LARGE HAM?!"
    • He doesn't have just a Large Ham. It's a freaking Epic Ham!
    • The Anti Spiral brings epic levels of ham in the final confrontation, at least in the English dub. "BURRRN IN THE EVERLASTING HELLFIRE OF CREATION! BE UTTERLY ANNIHILATED!! DOWN TO THE LAST! SCRAP! OF DEEEEEEEEEE-ENNNNNNNNN-AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!"
      • Then again, he was effectively throwing the Big Bang at the heroes. With great power comes great hamminess or something.
      • The Japanese version was also hammy, but only when it/they are being Hot-Blooded and fighting. Its normal tone of voice is a Creepy Monotone, just for added contrast.
        • In the movie remake "Lagann-hen", the Anti-Spiral is so hammy it borders on Narm, considering he was portrayed as emotionless before.
          • Justified by Nia's dialog, nobody can supress the Spiral instinct (read, Hammy hot-bloodedness) forever.
  • For someone who holds a respectable position in a prosecutor's office and leads a life of such extreme regularity that Immanuel Kant himself would envy it, Mikami Teru of Death Note is an extra-juicy ham. His ham moments (which contain a healthy, or perhaps unhealthy, dose of Mundane Made Awesome) are the more startling because they appear in a series that is relatively realistic, notwithstanding L's and Near's deductions ex machina.

"I'll take this potato chip... AND EAT IT!!!!!"

    • Misa also. She's at her hammiest at the beginning of episode 18 (just look at those facial expressions). Lampshaded in-universe, when L actually accuses her of overacting when practicing her reactions to being interrogated. Perhaps being an actress herself (in-universe) helps.
  • Dantalion, Bal Masque's Mad Scientist in Shakugan no Shana.
  • Mighty Gai. Mito Guy. Might Guy from Naruto, as he's a parody of an over-excited coach from a Sports Anime. Constantly makes declarations about "The Fire of Youth" and Dynamic Entries.
    • Mostly when around Guy, his prized student Rock Lee can be considered such.
    • And let us not forget Jiraiya. "When you've reached the stature I have... THE LADIES KNEEL AND WORSHIP... AT YOUR AWESOMENESS!!"
    • Naruto himself is full of ham.
    • Deidara Don't you know "ART IS AN EXPLOSION!!"
    • Hidan the psycho priest guy.
    • Killer Bee with raps and his brother The Fourth Raikage with his infamous Dynamic Exit of course.
  • Trigun:

Knives: LET'S WIPE OUT! ALL THE SCUM!! HAHAHAAAA!

    • And let's not forget Legato, whose over-the-top psycho badassery is manifested even when he eats (while laughing maniacally or in-between torturing people).
    • LOVE AND PEACE!
  • The English dub of the Deltora Quest anime has the villains ham up and scream in almost every sentence. If this doesn't annoy the crap out of you, then I don't know what will.
  • The Count in Gankutsuou qualifies to some extent, especially with his melodramatic poses and obvious histrionic enjoyment.

The Count: BERTUCCIO! LET'S GO TO PARIS! WHERE EVIL CRAWLS! HAHAHAHAHAAA!

      • The fact that he yells this with a dandy pose and with an expression of absolute insanity just after he sobbed desperately like a wounded kid emphasizes the spectacular aspect of the scene.
  • Haruka Suzushiro from My-HiME (and Haruka Armitage from Mai-Otome) may very well be the queen of anime and manga Large Hams, with a flair for shouting and dramatic gestures (especially finger-pointing) that is too great to be ignored.
    • On the villainous side, Tomoe (post-Yandere snap) tries to out-ham Haruka in Zwei.
  • Now and Then, Here and There has King Hamdo, voiced by Jack Taylor in the English version, in which the way he acts, he should actually be called King HAMdo.
  • Ergo Proxy has a few of these. The creators of the show seem to know exactly how pretentious they were and reveled in it. Many of the Proxies have a tendency toward the overly dramatic, but none more so than MCQ, who out of boredom created his battle arena as an elaborate gameshow he hosts with great enthusiasm. The Magnificent Bastard Proxy One is also worth mentioning, as he goes out of his way to act and look as melodramatic as possible.
  • Perhaps to make up for the (in comparison) low-key main cast, a lot of side characters behave this way in Princess Tutu. Particularly in the ADV Films dub, where the actors were obviously enjoying themselves Some of the more notable examples:

Professor Cat: "If you don't do well in your studies...I WILL HAVE YOU MAAAAAAARY ME!!!"

Femio:"[cymbal crash] OH, HEAVEN! [cymbal crash] POUR JUDGMENT UPON...THIS SINNAAAAAAAH!"

      • (In the Japanese version, his hammiest moments literally sound like they're spoken over a loud-speaker!)

Autor: "And to think that the stories are so powerful that the endings even had to be torn out! ISN'T IT THRILLING?!"

HEY, AMERICA! WHAT ARE YOU DOING HEEEEEEREEEEE!!!?"

    • That's nothing. Each time that The Axis and the Allies would fight each other in season 1, the sounds of spotlights flicking on in the distance, a chorus of trumpets blaring triumphantly, and all countries looking nervously at the ocean... only to see a blinding light and THE ham of the series: an ENORMOUS Roman Empire traveling on a boat or a bed accompanied by a harem of beautiful women singing the following warning:

Roman Empire: In heaven, the police are British, the lovers are Italian, the chefs are French, the engineers are German, and the bankers are Swiss. In hell, the police are German, the lovers are Swiss, the chefs are British, the engineers are French, and the bankers are Italian!

    • His eldest grandson Romano (South Italy) is no better, at least in the English dub. Prone to long-winded insults and strange noises, it's no surprise that pork is one of the more well-eaten dishes in Southern Italy.

Romano (to Germany): THIS WEATHERMAN'S PREDICTING A 99% CHANCE OF SHITSTORM AND IT'S COMING RIGHT AT YA!

  • Hellsing's Alucard dominates any scene he's in, and is even more hammy when voiced by Crispin Freeman in the English dubs for both the original series and the OVA.
    • And lest we forget, The Major himself probably achieved his position by clubbing all other competitors to death with the sheer size of his ham. When he can launch into a ten-minute speech about how much he loves war and make it awesome, you've got a true ham on hand.
    • Let's not forget Integra Hellsing's "Kill 'em All" speech in volume 3, or the Valentine Bros in 2.
    • And Father Anderson? Aaaaaaaameeeeeeeen!!!
      • Anderson's Dynamic Entry rescue of Integra in Ultimate 5 was basically hand-crafted for Norio Wakamoto because it is oozing with so much ham and Narm, that only Wakamoto could pull it off while retaining the awesomeness of the mome.
  • The Prince of Tennis: Everything about Atobe Keigo just screams Large Ham, and is a large part of why the character is ridiculously popular with the fans.
    • Example: his most well-known line, "Ore-sama no bigi ni yoi na!", roughly means "Be awed by my prowess".
      • And the musical version takes it up a notch turning the line into a song and dance number titled Ore-sama no bigi ni boogie woogie'’. This includes other characters fainting when he blows kisses, and he takes the time to sample bottled water in a wineglass as if it were wine, in the middle of a tennis match.
  • Mark Oliver, the voice actor for Rau Le Creuset in the dub Gundam SEED. The scene where he reveals Kira's history as the Ultimate Coordinator is incredibly dramatic, but while Toshihiko Seki simply has Rau raise his voice, Oliver chews the scenery with relish.
  • Creed from Black Cat. His super evil over-the-top laugh, paired with him constantly screaming praises of Train make him a rather Large Ham indeed.
  • Tamaki Suoh of Ouran High School Host Club is very interested in educating himself in the ways of the common people's ham.
    • Not to mention Renge Houshakuji, complete with Noblewoman's Laugh.
    • It's hard to tell whether the seiyuu or the voice actors were having more fun, but let's face it—even if he wasn't into Ouran by the time it was licensed, Tamaki's Berserk Button animation and personality kinda pinpointed who would eventually play him.
  • Ayame Sohma of Fruits Basket would love nothing more than to embrace his little brother and clutch him to his hamly bosom.
    • Hamminess may be a side effect of the family curse. Hatori and Yuki seem to avoid it (most of the time), but Kagura, Momiji, Ritsu, Shigure...
  • Mad Scientist Komui Lee of D.Gray-man transforms into ham around his sister, Action Girl Lenalee. Yet another one voiced by Katsuyuki "Kamina" Konishi, you see.
  • A few characters in Baccano!. For Isaac and Miria, it comes with the ditzy Refuge in Audacity territory. And then there's Ladd...
    • Graham Spector?
      • Ladd and GraHam Spector meet up and get into a scenery-chewing battle of epic proportions. There are no survivors.
  • Some of the Devil Bats of Eyeshield 21 can be pretty hammy, Monta and Taki come to mind, but some of the guys on the other teams are really hammy, as well as the announcers (although, they are sports announcers so...).
  • Nozomu Itoshiki from Sayonara, Zetsubou-sensei.

"I AM IN DESPAIR! OVERLY MELODRAMATIC ACTING HAS LEFT ME IN DESPAIR! "

  • While usually understated, Robin from One Piece turns into a faux-Shakespearian actor after cast in a play, turning pedestrian dialog into melodramatic tragedy. It's implied that this is because she doesn’t know any other style of theatre.
    • In One Piece, it's not just the characters, THE ENTIRE WORLD is like this!
      • Perhaps more than anyone, however is CP9 member Kumadori, who's a large ham even by One Piece's standards. Which is fitting, since his character design is based off of Kabuki theater. In addition to screaming his every line and reciting poems before an attempted deathblow, he even rambles on in faux-Shakesperian speech patterns as he fights.

"NOOOOOOOOW THOOOUUUU AAAAART MIIIIIIIINE!!!!!"

  • Bandou from Elfen Lied proves that you can be a Large Ham in a Manga, even with no voice acting involved at all.
    • Not helped by how, in the anime, he's voiced by Joji Nakata.
  • Dr. Jail Scaglietti of Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha. He speaks dramatically when he gives instruction. He speaks dramatically when he makes an observation. He speaks dramatically when he's facing defeat. Even when he's been incarcerated for three years, he still speaks dramatically when being interrogated in StrikerS Sound Stage X. And when he's actually broadcasting in front of a camera, hoo-boy... It probably helps that he's voiced by Ken "Orange-kun" Narita.
  • Tsukiyo from Sketchbook tends to respond overly dramatic when she isn't recognized by the other students—this happens quite often.
    • And Kuma. Then again, he was being voiced by Joji Nakata.
  • The Furukawas of Clannad are made of this trope. Quite appropriate; the father was formerly an actor.
  • Princess Amelia of The Slayers, the "HAMMER OF JUSTICE!". Her father, Philionel, is pretty much the same ("GOODWILL TO ALL LIVING THINGS SMASH!").
    • Naturally, episode 16 of season 1 took it so far Lina had to lampshade her own hamminess during the stage battle.
    • Of course one cannot forget about Princess Martina, who hams it to the max in her worship of the MONSTER ZOAMULGUSTARRRR!!
    • How can we forget Wizer Freyon from Revolution? "I hereby arrest you for the crime of BEING LINA INVERSE!!!!" Not surprising, given that he's voiced by ham-lord Dan Green.
  • In the anime of Umineko no Naku Koro ni, Beatrice the Endless Witch has definitely been delivering the Large Ham.

Beatrice: "Let's start torturing each other. Ushiromiya BAAAATORAAAAA!"

  • Gauron from Full Metal Panic!. Pretty much everything the guy does is made incredibly hammy (along with having rapist vibes). And in the novels, he literally eats ham while dramatically giving orders to the AI when he hijacked the Tuatha de Dannan. Partially Lampshaded during the last arc of Season 1, where Mao notices him on the top of the tallest building, not putting any effort to conceal himself, which pretty much makes everyone else go "WTF." He then proceeds to hammily yell out "All you people from Mithril~! I've missed you all!" and tell them that "It's party time! Let's dance!!! <3"
  • Kyoko from Skip Beat! is consistently hammy. Almost everything she does is saturated with Mundane Made Awesome and Hot-Blooded-ness, and there's even a running gag with her using daikon radishes for a variety of things — cold remedies, talent auditions, etc.
    • Also Lory Takarada, the president of Kyoko's agency, always makes a huge entrance wearing the most bizarre outfits (usually a throwback to historical or extravagant settings, such as harems, the renaissance, etc.) flanked by lots of people, presumably his employees who have nothing else to do.
  • Yukimura from Sengoku Basara. But only when dealing with or talking to or thinking about his OYAKATA-HAM-A!! So, all the time.
    • Just Yukimura and Shingen? Pretty much every character from that anime has vast amounts of ham. Oda Nobunaga is even voiced by the Japanese incarnation of ham.
  • Dark Schneider from Bastard!!.

    • Team Rocket. Their entire introduction alone is a good enough reason for them to be listed under this trope.
    • Baron Alberto as well.
    • Cilan gets turned from a rather shy character in the games to a FABULOUS Gym Leader with a seiyuu to match.
  • Space Deputy Kogoro of Keroro Gunsou is made of this. Keroro also has his hammy moments.
  • THE WAY OF THE FIVE GRAINS!
  • Lotte, the German karate kid in Sasameki Koto. WELL MET MY CHOSEN! [dead link]...
  • Noda of Angel Beats! manages to stand out from a cast of at least 50% pure grade-A hams by screaming almost every line, usually punctuated by flourishes of his ever-present halberd axe.
    • Not to mention everyone in the OVA. Yuri actually forces them to be as hammy as possible in the hopes that it will confuse Angel.
  • From the Fate Stay Night anime, Ilya's use of the word BAHSAHKAH is more than enough.
  • Absolutely everyone in Rose of Versailles, which goes with the fact that it's a quite early anime series and easily one of the most melodramatic ever.
  • Winner Sinclair from Karin. EVERY line he utters is incredibly hammy and ridiculously accented. "TIME FOR TALK IS OVER! I CHALLENGE YOU TO DUEL!"
  • In Saint Seiya, Gemini Saga is a rather stoic and serious Tragic Hero. However, when under he's the effects of a Split Personality Takeover, the guy unleashes his inner ham and lets it run WILD. His Evil Gloating and Evil Laugh are truly a sight to behold.
    • Cranked Up to Eleven in the MEMORABLE Latin-American dub, where it's obvious that his VA Javier Rivero was having waaaaay too much fun. Here are some examples.
      • By the way, talking about the Latin-American dub, Gemini Saga was voiced in three chapters by Carlos del Campo, the temporal voice that he had during the Split Personality Takeover in the final battle of the Sanctuary saga, and he literally chewed the scenario.
        • Then again, Carlos del Campo soon went to voice Professor Tomoe and Principal Kuno, and both times the man unleashed even more hamminess on the poor scenery.
  • Zorori from Kaiketsu Zorori. That is all.
  • 007 from Cyborg 009 most definitely fits this. Justified Trope, since he was a clasically trained actor in his backstory.
  • Tomo from Azumanga Daioh.
  • Shizuo from Durarara!!. He enters half the scenes by throwing a vending machine or something heavy at Izaya, followed by him yelling "IIII-ZAAA-YAAAA!!"
  • It might not seem so at first, but after about 60 episodes of Gintama, you start to realize that Katsura is actually a large ham.
    • There are a surplus of hammy characters in Gintama, but an honorable mention belongs to Gintoki himself. Especially the strawberry milk speech.

Listen up! Let's say you drink too much strawberry milk, and have to use the bathroom in the middle of the night. But it's cold outside your bed. You don't want to get up, but the urge to urinate is just too strong! You make up your mind to go! You run to the bathroom, stand in front of the toilet, and let loose! You think that all your life has led to this moment! But then you realize! It isn't the bathroom! You're still in bed! That feeling of lukewarm wetness spreads like wild fire! But you don't stop! You can't stop! That's what I'm talking about! That's the truth of the strawberry milk! DO YOU GET IT!?

WE ARE FAIRY TAIL!

  • ZOIDS Chaotic Century and Guardian Force have their fair share of these, though the greatest examples of this are Big Bads Gunther Prozen and Hiltz. Protagonist Van Flyheight gets a fair few as well
    • It is impossible to talk about Zoids without mentioning "The Baron of Wings" and "The Sword of Storms*, aka Rosso and Viola, once they acquire the Storm Sworders, whose tendency to make grand entrances and deliver dramatic monologues while kicking the ass of whatever nefarious character or minion thereof happens to be around is so hammy it borders on intense Narm - but it's still awesome.
  • The same can be said for Stinger, an effeminate mercenary who pretty much hams it up almost every time he opens his mouth.
    • From the same franchise, Steve Toros and Dr. Layon are MADE of this trope. Taken Up to Eleven when the two come face to face.
  • Homura Akemi from Puella Magi Madoka Magica is one of the few hams who are also The Stoic or a Sugar and Ice Personality. Blame it on her tendence to dramatically flip her Rapunzel Hair and appear out of nowhere.
    • And even then Homura is completely upstaged by a certain Witch we know as Walpurgisnacht. She spins around upside-down, has a very high-piched Evil Laugh, is said to be "the Witch of Stage Settings" and it looks like her goal is to literally subject the world itself to destruction as a bombastic, hammy Grand Finale. That's hamminess and then some more.
  • Hosaka of Minami-ke is an absolutely enormous ham.
  • Viscount Druitt from Black Butler is a huge ham, especially in the second season.
  • Super Atragon gives us no less than four characters who serve up big, steaming platters of ham:
  • Dead Leaves, in English at least, is a butchershop of ham to rival most of the Gurren Lagann cast, especially Kamina, which makes sense when you see that Hiroyuki Imaishi directed it. Unfortunately, he forgot to make it funny in Japanese, so the dubbing crew took up most of the work, so it is undoubtedly funnier in English. But what the hell am I doing without examples?
  • Kazemakase Tsukikage Ran: Meow can be....enthusiastic when she introduces herself and other occasions. This involves a louder voice and practiced posing.
  • Yumekui Merry: Chaser John Doe.
  • In Mirai Nikki, the moment Twelfth started putting his costume on to his death, every time he's been on screen is to Parody Sentai superheros in the most over-the-top manner possible
  • Mawaru Penguindrum gave us the Princess of the Crystal and her "SURVIVAL STRATEGYYYYYY!" first, but charas like Masako Natsume and Yuri Tokikago have been hamming it up as well. To say nothing about Masako's grandpa Sanbei, who manages to ham it up from beyond the grave!
  • From the English dub of Beyblade we have one of the tournament commentators, "BRAAAAAAD BEST".
  • Hanamichi Sakuragi from Slam Dunk is, undoubtly, one of the hammiest Sport Anime leads EVER.
