Halo Wars 2

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

Halo Wars 2 is a 2017 Real Time Strategy game set in the Halo universe as the sequel to Halo Wars- It was developed by 343 Industries and Creative Assembly and published by Microsoft Studios.

The year is 2559. The UNSC Spirit of Fire has been adrift for 28 years. Serina, the ship's AI, has managed to take care of the crew well after developing rampancy, but decided to self-terminate himself. Laying above an unknown planet, the ship receives a distress signal, but the technology gap prevents the message of being decrypted and understood by the ship. Captain James Cutter sends a Spartan Team to investigate the signal coming from the surface. And let's just say that what they find down there is really hostile, though they aren't exactly the enemies that the Spirit of Fire expected to fight.

Tropes used in Halo Wars 2 include:
  • Big Bad: Atriox, an ex-Servant of the Covenant now leading his own army.
  • Big Good: Cutter by default since he leads the human group.
  • Curb Stomp Battle: The first encounter of the spartans with Atriox ends with two of them dead, one wounded badly, and Atriox leaving them walk away laughing, not even fearing a little the humans weapons pointed at him.
  • Evil Gloating: Justified, because Atriox wants to discover more about the humans he just fought before killing them, in the hope of finding something useful and know more about his next opponents.
  • Evil Sounds Deep: Atriox has a very deep voice.
  • Fish Out of Temporal Water: The whole crew of the Spirit of Fire thanks to being asleep for decades. Not surprisingly, they still think they're at war with the Covenant.
  • Greed: Nothing else seems to motivate Atriox other than accumulate more and more power and resources.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Serina terminates herself rather than make Cutter terminate her.
  • Immune to Bullets: Atriox isn't affected by the Spartan weapons when they first met him.
  • Loot Boxes: Microsoft and 343 Industries teamed up with "Loot Crates", a subscriptin company, for their loot boxes and said boxes' perks, like the subscribes will be part of the "Fireteam Apollo" and getting exclusive in-game content.
  • Politically-Incorrect Villain: Atriox call humans "little demons" in a way that sounds very...condescending.
  • Rousing Speech: Cutter gives one of these after Isabel suggests the humans to run away, affirming his desire to fight Atriox instead of allowing further destruction and killing.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Isabel suggest this after telling Atriox's back story to Cutter, but Cutter decides to fight instead.
  • Suicide Mission: Atriox apparently survived through several of these fighting for the Covenant.
  • The Brute: Atriox and his clan served as this for the Covenant in the past.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: The Covenant tried to get rid of Atriox when they realized his defiance. They failed.
