• Hey, It's That Guy!:
  • Whoa, Inara's come down in the world, hasn't she?
  • Played up majorly for Ryan Reynolds, with all manner of references to his other roles.
  • Say, didn't that recruiter once offer a starship to the cast of Star Trek Galaxy Quest?
• Hey, It's That Place!: Toronto's Casa Loma appears as the X-Mansion again.
• Missing Trailer Scene: The trailers had unused lines and alternate takes.
• Real Life Writes the Plot: The filmmakers were forced to work under a tight budget, which required changes in characters and plot from the original script. Several X-Men and related characters were written in and then written back out because the CGI costs for realizing them would have been prohibitive. Similarly, Deadpool's action scenes -- particularly the climax -- were scaled back, primarily by the device of having him forget his guns and ammo. Lampshaded when Deadpool goes to Xavier's school to get reinforcements:

Deadpool: Wow, this is such a big house, but it's only the two of you here. It's like the studio didn't have enough money for another X-Man.

• Retroactive Recognition: Angel Dust went on to work with The Mandalorian.
• Saved From Development Hell: After test footage got leaked in 2014, the film jumped out of Development Hell after about a decade.
• Shout-Out: To Tim Burton's Batman with the tagline used on much of the promotional advertising: "Wait 'til you get a load of me."
  • And to Ferris Bueller's Day Off in the Stinger.
  • The zamboni scene is a potential shout-out to Austin Powers.
• What Could Have Been: Anyone who thinks this movie is raunchy, obscene, and/or vulgar should see the stuff they cut out. As director Tim Miller revealed at an early screening, "In particular, there was a bar scene that was too vulgar for even the R-rated Deadpool. T.J. [Miller] and Ryan [Reynolds] got together and wrote a version of the scene that we just said, 'Oh my God, this is too far.' I mean there were so many people offended… It was just mean and so I said, 'No. We don't have to do that.'"
