  • 2000: Boca Juniors - River Plate, second match in the quarterfinals of the 2000 edition. Centerforward Martín Palermo of Boca Juniors had an injury which lasted seven months. That was his comeback match. The team was already winning 2-0 (the previous match was won by River, 2-1) and he manages to do a goal with his still injuried leg and all.
  • 2004: Boca Juniors - River Plate (again) four years later, this time, the semifinals. Due to incidents, both mtches were played with only local attendants (i.e. in the first match, at La Bombonera, only Boca Juniors supporters could see the match in Boca's stadium and the second match, played in the Monumental, River Plate's stadium, only River supporters were allowed to enter). The first match was won 1-0 by Boca, and the second one was won by River 2-1. This semifinal series overqualifies to be one, big ass battle...
  • 2008: River Plate - San Lorenzo, second match of the round of 8: The first match was won by San Lorenzo 2-1 in San Lorenzo's Nuevo Gasómetro. By this time, goals as away team counted double in case of overall score tie, so River needed to win 1-0 in order to qualify to the quarterfinals. River started winning 1-0. Then, made a second goal, confirming it's qualification to the quarterfinals. Cue the second half of the match, San Lorenzo made a goal, which, if the result kept, would have ended in the penalty shootout. But near the end of the match, San Lorenzo makes other goal, in an epic comeback, qualifying to the quarterfinals.
