- Crowning Moment of Awesome: When the channel launched Ted Turner made a Badass Boast of: "We won't be signing off until the world ends. We'll be on, and we will cover the end of the world, live, and that will be our last event... and when the end of the world comes, we'll play 'Nearer, My God, to Thee' before we sign off."
- Network Decay: While still a news channel, CNN has been steadily moving away from news toward tabloidy fluff.
- The worst of the network decay was the 2007-2010 period where they tried to steal Fox News's audience by programming a couple of right-wing aimed shows (such as Glenn Beck and Lou Dobbs Tonight) in primetime instead of the supposedly "neutral" viewpoints the network is known for. The network wouldn't start recovering until Piers Morgan (best known as one of the judges on America's Got Talent) joined the network in late 2010.
