• The Merch: Besides being best known as a children's shoe mascot, Buster and Tige saw their likenesses used on countless children's toys and other merchandise.
• Fan Nickname: A meta-example, as the style of shoes both Buster and Mary Jane wore in the strips would later be known as "Mary Janes".
• Write Who You Know: Outcault named Buster Brown's sweetheart Mary Jane after his daughter. She would also eventually lend her name to a style of children's shoes worn by both her namesake character as well as Buster. Buster's mother was also modeled after Outcault's wife as well.
