Beetlejuice (theatre)/YMMV

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

These things about Beetlejuice (theatre) are subjective - not everyone will agree with all of them.

  • Alternate Character Interpretation:
    • During "Say My Name," one of the first things that Beetlejuice does is burn Lydia's Suicide Note by tossing it in the air where it bursts into flame. What were his reasons? A Pet the Dog moment since movie Beetlejuice was discomfited when Lydia told him she was suicidal and he asked her why she'd want to do that? The opportunity to show that he can do more than the standard ghost to convince her to summon him, given some actresses look amazed when he does that? Outright refusal to let the only living person who can see him jump off the roof, owing to his loneliness? It's all up to the audience.
    • Do Adam and Barbara have trouble being scary because they know subconsciously that the Deetzes didn't do anything to deserve being kicked out of their house? In the movie, they turned to haunting out of desperation when Delia and Otho kept tearing up the home repairs that Adam lovingly installed while calling them tacky. The musical has them admit the house is a fixer-upper, as that's what literally kills them. Was there fear about traumatizing Lydia with the possession, even if it was her idea?
