The Jury
The Jury is a British Series aired on ITV in 2002, and a second season aired in 2011. A courtroom drama series, both seasons dealt with an ongoing murder trial at the Old Bailey in London, focusing on the twelve jurors summoned to try the defendants, the defendants themselves, and the attorneys defending or prosecuting them.
The first series in 2002 focused on the murder trial of a teenage Sikhism named Duvinder Singh, accused of hacking up a fellow schoolmate who had been bullying him. Facing the wrath of the victim's family and friends, Duvinder is supported by George Cording (Derek Jacobi) whilst being prosecuted by the well-meaning but aggressive Gerald Lewis. Jurors include recovering alcoholic Johnny (Gerard Butler); Charles, who has left his life as a clergyman (Stuart Bunce); Rose, whose husband has grown paranoid since a car crash (Helen Mccrory); Jeremy, who was conned by a former friend (Nicholas Farrell); Peter, who becomes the jury's foreman (Michael Maloney), and Marcia, who is targeted by the victim's rowdy relatives and has to take shelter in her estranged mother's house (Nina Sosanya).
The second series in 2011 focused on the retrial of Alan Lane (John Lynch) who was convicted of killing three women five years ago, but the first trial was dismissed when the evidence was compromised. Defending Alan Lane is Emma Watts (Julie Walters), a controversial but brilliant attorney, and the prosecutor is John Mallory (Roger Allam). Among the jurors are Kristina, who is a lonely housewife (Branka Katicas); Sudanese immigrant Tahir, who wants to get a visa to America (Ivanno Jeremiah); Rashid, who has Asperger's syndrome (Aqib Khan); Katherine, who is pregnant with a seventeen-year-old boy's child (Johdi May); Lucy, who is forced to impersonate her boss, Tasha Williams, and attend jury service (Natalie Press), and Paul, who looks after his ill mother (Steven Mackintosh).
- Amoral Attorney: All of the Q Cs are required to uphold this.
- Badass Beard: Johnnie's.
- Badass Normal: The jurors in both seasons, and Emma Watts, who launches a re-trial after evidence is found to be compromised.
- Bald of Awesome: Brian Bundy.
- Bald of Evil: Rose's paranoid husband Len.
- The Baroness: Eva, one of two jurors in Season 1 to keep their guilty verdict till the end. She is more of the Rosa Klebb type of this trope.
- Bittersweet Ending: Season 1's ending - Elsie dies from her tumour, and Peter is confused whether or not Duvinder did or did not kill his schoolmate.
- Black Best Friend: Tahir to Jeffrey.
- Body Horror: John Maher was brutally stabbed, hacked and slashed to death with over twenty wounds, all using one sword.
- But I Can't Be Pregnant: Katherine's arc.
- Cool Old Guy: Jeffrey.
- Cool Sword: The weapon Duvinder apparently used to kill John Maher.
- Corrupt Cop: Duvinder's prison guard.

- Deadpan Snarker: Cording, Watts and Mallory.
- Driven to Suicide: Mr. Maher, the father of the first season's victim.
- Eagleland: Tahir at first sees America as this, but mostly because his brother lives there.
- Fantastic Racism: The first season's prosecutor Gerald Lewis shows traits of this against Sikhism.
- Genius Cripple: 18-year old Rashid suffers from Asperger's Syndrome, but his illness proves to help him focus on every detail of Alan Lane's trial and discovers Tasha has been fooling Paul.
- Immigrant Patriotism: Averted, Tahir hated Sudan and with good reason.
- Juror For A Day: Lucy Cartwright is forced to act as her boss Theresa Vestry when the latter cannot attend jury service herself.
- Kangaroo Court: Nearly turns into this in Season 2, thanks to Tasha's meddling.
- Love Hurts: Alan Lane, Rose, Kristina and Katherine all suffer through this trope.
- Manipulative Bitch: Tasha, although she was a Well-Intentioned Extremist.
- Meddling Parents: Peter's father-in-law becomes involved in solving the trial of Duvinder, leading to Peter questioning his final decision to set Duvinder free.
- Psychopathic Manchild: The homicidal maniac who may have been the true killer of John Maher.
- Roaring Rampage of Revenge: The family of the first season's victim.
- Tasha's vengeance in Season 2 is subtle and long. But turns out to have been aimed at an innocent man.
- Sassy Black Woman: Marcia and her mother.
- Shipper on Deck: Brian Bundy points out the loney woman Ann has feelings for Alan. This is confirmed by the end of the series.
- Teacher-Student Romance: Kathering and a 17-year old boy have one, resulting in Kathering getting pregnant.
- Unwitting Pawn: Both Alan Dale and Paul are manipulated by Tasha to ease the pain of the loved ones of Season 2's victims. Alan was merely framed due to being connected to the victims, whilst Paul was given false information to convict Alan.
- The Vicar: Charles, at first no longer a clergyman, but by the end of the series he has become a priest.
