The Green Knowe Chronicles/YMMV

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • Fridge Horror:
    • To a child reading the second book, Stefton and Caxton's treatment of Jacob is pretty nasty; it's even worse, however, from the point of view of an adult who is aware of the racial context and overtones.
    • Caxton's plan to marry nine-year-old Susan is even worse to an adult, who knows what people do when they are married.
  • High Octane Nightmare Fuel: In the fifth book, when Melanie sends a curse to Tolly's grandmother, carved on the skin of a child's hand.
    • The maggots and snakes also count as this.
    • The scene in the sixth book, when the Saxons are slaughtering the Britons.
  • Squick: Caxton plans to take over Green Knowe. His plans include marrying nine-year-old Susan.
  • They Just Didn't Care: In the fifth book, the author admits that she simply made up the witchcraft depicted in the story.
