The Gong Show/Trivia
Non-trope trivia
- Each episode's winner was given a check for the "highly unusual amount" of $516.32. The Other Wiki tells us that this was apparently the minimum daily pay ("scale") for a Screen Actors Guild member at the time, and over the years the show was on the air the prize went up when the scale did.
Trivia tropes
- Hey, It's That Guy!: More people than we could list here. A partial list would include Danny Elfman (as part of The Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo), Steve Martin, Paul Reubens, Michael Winslow, and Gary Owens. Even David Letterman. Yes, that David Letterman.
- Keep Circulating the Tapes: The Gong Show Movie has never been released on any home video format, and only appears occasionally on cable TV.
- Many episodes of the 1976-80 era, including the concurrent nighttime version (especially the Owens year), weren't shown on Game Show Network, due to issues with music clearances.
- The Pete Best: John Barbour, replaced after taping five shows by producer Barris.
