The Dreaming Island/Characters
Jaryl Garen
"What's with the 'young wolf'? I'm 34, right in my best years" |
Main Character, anthropomorphic wolf and Narrator. Finds himself on the Island Koholint, from where he tries to escape.
- Badass: Of course. Other than that, he apparently survived the events of Dangerous Detour, so it counts.
- Bare Your Midriff: Still doing it, showing off the muscles he's got via training over the years.
- Bruiser with a Soft Center: He cares a lot for his adopted dragon-son, and also feels pretty bad for the people on Koholint, as they have to suffer from that monster-invasion.
- Butt Monkey: Some minutes after he's arrived on Koholint, he gets hit on his head by a Coconut and thrown off his feet by Sale.[1]
- Character Development: Compared to his Dangerous Detour-persona, Jaryl's gone from a Perpetual Frowner to a pretty nice (if a little bit grumpy), Genre Savvy Knight in Sour Armor with a Soft Center.
- Chronic Hero Syndrome: Well, at least partially, and he calls himself out on that, but as he said himself:
It bugs me, always putting my neck on the line for other people, but it would be very heartless from me if I wouldn't at least try to help the people here. |
- Deadpan Snarker: Seems to do that with a slightly higher frequency.
- Fan Service Pack: While he could be considered attractive in Dangerous Detour already, his handsomeness-level was upped majorly here. The commenters on the picture to the right generally seem to agree.
- First-Person Smartass: He just can't quit it, even after all those years.
- Good Colors, Evil Colors: Still wears his clothing in bloodred and black.
- Good Scars, Evil Scars
- Handwraps of Awesome
- Heroes Prefer Somewhat Katana-like Swords
- Heroic Build: 14 years spent with training and such really do wonders.
- Hot Dad: Oh yeah.
- Knight in Sour Armor: While by no definition a knight, he's pretty much this, since he knows that the world and by extension Koholints invaders are very cruel, but keeps on going anyway.
- Manly Man: Now even more so.
- Male Gaze: Has to pull himself together to not stare at and get distracted by Crazy Tracys "assets". He even admits that he's kinda into that:
I can't help it, I'm just a typical man and I perceive such a view as very relevant concerning my private interests, which I don't want to elaborate further. |
- Narrator
- Purple Oni: Normally, he's calm and reserved. If things aren't going too well for him, he's more prone to slight anger-outbursts.
- Red Eyes, Take Warning
- Shonen Hair: Same as in Dangerous Detour, it's largely Depending on the Artist in how messy it is.
- Shut UP, Hannibal: Gives these to the boss-nightmare of Tail Cave, who has taken the form of Marin (with an ugly face) and tried to seduce him, which spectacularly failed
- Sleeves Are for Wimps
- ↑ "Erwin" in the story, which is also his german name
