The Day of the Triffids/YMMV

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • Anvilicious: The 2009 TV series has an unsubtle Subtext of "Look after the natural world or it will eat you."
  • Complete Monster: Torrence in the TV serial. He threatens to shoot Susan and Lucy unless Bill obeys him. He also orders Bill and Major Coker's murder and tells Jo that they were killed by Triffids before later attempting to seduce her. Twice. He makes the blind and nervous Hilda his unwilling slave and sexually harasses her, threatens to rape Jo and taunts Bill over the death of his parents.
  • Magnificent Bastard: Complete Monster he may be but Torrence is possessed of a singular charm and wit that makes it easy to see why his men follow him so blindly.
  • Nightmare Fuel: The Triffids and their feeding habits; even in the movie version they manage a few unsettling moments.
    • Just as terrifying is the blinding. Thousands of people die horrible deaths, because they looked up. And who wouldn't have that night?
    • The 2009 TV drama had a scene in the hospital where Mason is confronted with blinded nurses holding squawling babies. It was unsurprisingly cut, but can be seen in the deleted scenes on the DVD.
