The Brothers Grunt

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

Did you know that animator Danny Antonucci had made a show for MTV? If not, here's the background of it. During The Renaissance Age of Animation, animation was at its prime for cable television. Beavis and Butthead were infamous on TV (aside from their show being mistaken for a children's cartoon). And when they were on hiatus, this show appeared.

The Brothers Grunt told about the leader of the grunts, Perry, who had escaped. His five brothers (Frank, Dean, Bing, Sammy and Bernie) have to find him or else the brotherhood of the grunts will fall. It's a Cult Classic to fans of Danny Antonucci. After this show ended, Danny would later be famous for Ed, Edd 'n' Eddy.

Tropes used in The Brothers Grunt include:
  • Big Eater: The episode "Scrub me Sammy" features a big fat lady that fits this trope.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: The grunts appeared in an ad for MTV before the show was made; that ad can be seen here.
  • Deranged Animation: The show heads in this direction.
  • Gross-Out Show
  • No Celebrities Were Harmed: The person who is singing the song's intro is impersonating Tom Jones. Danny originally wanted Tom Jones to sing the song's intro, but that didn't happen.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: If you want to watch this show, you are better off finding the episodes on YouTube. That's only because MTV didn't bother to release the show on VHS, or DVD, for that matter.
  • Old Shame: For MTV but not for Antonucci (who didn't understand viewers hating the show).
  • Speaking Simlish: The grunts follow this by making grunt sounds, although at times they only said a few words only once.
  • Shout-Out: The main characters' names are nods to famous singers from the 1960s: Frank, Tony, Bing, Dean, Sammy and Perry.
  • Roger Rabbit Effect: In the middle of certain episodes this will happen. A random music video will play that fits with the episode, and the grunts would appear either doing random things or walking by the singers(who cannot see them).
