... but I don't have time to do the work. As of this writing, too many of the examples are "there are two of them", ignoring the "and they provide commentary on the story" part of the trope. In at least one case, two recurring extras are listed as an example.

Does anybody have time to go through the examples here and sort out "Those Two Guys" from "a couple of buddies" and "two recurring extras"?

I think I'll just nuke the whole "Music" section and let anyone who knows better put stuff back. As it currently stands, all the examples look more like "people who aren't the face".

Mm. I'm guilty of contributing to the decay of this trope -- I've used it for characters as inconsequential as Nabiki Tendo's two nameless hangers-on in Ranma ½. I should probably go back over stuff I've written and fix that.
