Does anyone else think this trope has an esoteric name?

I'd expect something titled "Liquid Assets" to be abut precious liquids (such as petroleum or mercury), not abut how attribute transfers leave a physical indication on the person that the attribute came from.

I propose a rename to "Transfer Taint", or something else if anyone can come up with a better name.

I wouldn't mind using Transfer Taint but I want to suggest Life Drain.

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

We already have a different trope called Life Drain.

Kuma (talkcontribs)

Sorry about that. How about Drain Bane as another suggestion, then?

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

What's baneful about the trope? It's about treating powers and their physical manifestations like they're liquids that can pumped hither and yon between people.

Kuma (talkcontribs)

I'm using the definition of bane that goes like this: "a person or thing that ruins or spoils". In this context, I am referring to the effect of being drained as a bane due to it negative effect on the body.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

That's still not what the trope is about. The trope is about being able to easily move powers and their manifestations around, not how bad it is that powers can be moved.

Kuma (talkcontribs)

Alright, sorry for that. A laconic page can help with stopping future misunderstandings. Okay, since those don't work; what about 'Vital Energy'?

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

The trope is not so much about how transfers leave a physical indication, it's about the idea that powers can be piped and pumped around like water, regardless of how little sense it makes, just incidentally leaving behind no evidence in their existence from whoever they're "drained" from (even if they're something like wings) and manifesting on whoever's received them. It's a clever title, but yeah, a bit obscure. "Transfer Taint" I think misses the point. But something a bit clearer would be good.

RivetVermin (talkcontribs)

I know this is probably opening a whole new debate, but there is a section of examples under the header "Aging/youthening without explicit transfer". If the title is to explicitly reference transferring back-and-forth, it would stand to reason the trope has grown outside its scope and this section needs splitting off?

Utini501 (talkcontribs)

I can sympathize with the idea of giving this trope a clearer name, but I also agree with Transfer Taint not feeling quite right. I've tried to come up with a few names myself, but the ones I've kicked around ("Impossible Substance Conversion" and "Conceptual Draining") feel outright awkward and unwieldy.

GentlemensDame883 (talkcontribs)

To me, it sounds like something to do with money. Which probably is the point, but still.

No idea what would be a more indicative name.
