The variant (also related to Exactly What I Aimed At and Deadly Dodging) might be if you are the attacker and are hoping that opponent will dodge in order to strike something behind them.
(Once I managed this in a Dungeons&Dragons. Opponent had a spell to slow down my arrows; I shot a arrow with fire at them which was slow and they could easily dodge out of the way, but then once they did it was too late to realize that I was actually aiming at the building behind them (which was their headquarters).)
