Spider-Man: Homecoming/YMMV

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

These things about Spider-Man: Homecoming are subjective - not everyone will agree with all of them.

  • Alternate Character Interpretation:
    • Is Tony Stark a responsible father figure and good mentor to Peter, or a neglectful Jerkass who doesn't take his ward seriously? While it's clear that he really wants Peter to use his powers and tech responsibly, Tony's lack of patience with Peter and tendency to go behind his back while completely ignoring him doesn't exactly paint him in the most flattering light.
      • Related to that, we have his snarky comments about the Vulture and the thugs buying his tech as being "below his pay grade". Is he arrogantly underestimating the destructive capability of Spider-Man's enemies, or is it a brutally honest observation from a man with much bigger fish to fry?
    • Adrian Toomes: a working class hero who lost his way, or a greedy thug making excuses for himself?
  • Base Breaker: The MCU's incarnation of Spider-Man might be one of the most controversial versions of the character to ever appear in the media. His fans love him for being an Adorkable goofball, and find his hero worship and father/son relationship with Tony Stark adorable (or at the very least, a good way to make him distinct from Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's incarnations of Spider-Man). However, others find those to be his weakest aspects. His relationship with Tony is singled out in particular due to the belief that it completely misses the point of the character, and turns him from a scrappy teenager forced to figure things out for himself to a pampered Robin wannabe who got lucky.
  • Evil Is Cool: The Vulture. He's intimidating, sympathetic, stylish, and a bonafide Magnificent Bastard. Not only is he considered by many to be the best incarnation of the character, but he's also considered to be one of the MCU's strongest villains as a whole.
  • Memetic Mutation: "So, you got detention." That screenshot of Captain America sitting on a chair saying those words have been remixed for him to say basically everything as long it begins with "So".
