Republic of Doyle/YMMV

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • Awesome Music: This show has it in spades, from the theme song (Great Big Sea's "Oh, Yeah") to the songs used in the episodes.
  • Cargo Ship: Slightly in the case of Jake and his car.
  • Come for the X, Stay for the Y: Come for the rare portrayal of Newfoundlanders as something other than toothless idiots, and stay for the surprisingly good writing and character dynamics.
  • Ear Worm: The theme song. You might find yourself singing "Oh yeah-ee-yeah-ee-yeah-ee-yeah" for a while after you've seen a few episodes.
  • Love It or Hate It: People usually decide it's either a funny, interesting and escapist show, or an over-acted unfunny mess.
  • One True Pairing: Jake/Leslie, Mal/Rose, Des/Tinny.
  • Pandering to the Base: Shirtless Jake is blatantly pandering to the female fanbase (and probably not a few male fans as well). Yeowza.
  • The Scrappy: Tinny (to some - also qualifies as The Load). Has grown/dealt marijuana (which could have landed Jake/Malachy in serious trouble if she'd been caught), is a completely manipulative witch to Mal, Rose and Jake in the beginning (who are all honestly trying to help), blatantly uses Des, finally gets a chance to go to England and seems to have just thrown it away, etc.
    • Subverted a bit in that she actually did go to England, she just couldn't crack it and came back.
    • She also got very Tsundere over Des' relationship with Chandra, eventually culminating in his breaking up with her, and is showing hints of Yandere-ness.
  • Squick: Jake's reaction whenever Malachy and Rose start to get intimate.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: Arguably, Tinny and Leslie as of season three.
  • Unpopular Popular Character: Des.
  • The Woobie: Pretty much all the main male characters have had moments like this.
