Notability in the Let's Play community
There are very little people that have managed to gain popularity as quickly as PewDiePie in the art of Lets Playing. It can be quite baffling, as new LPers who attempt to gain popularity via playing obscure titles usually remain unnoticed. But what makes Pewds stand out in the crowd of the many LPers that has tried and failed to maintain a decently sized fanbase, can be summarized in a word that makes Pewds unique: Character.
When a person watches PewDiePie's videos, there is always an ongoing activity of some sort. Very rarely does PewDiePie wander in the dark engulfed by the atmosphere; he is always try to lighten the mood with his enthusiasm and cheeriness for the viewer, who otherwise would be viewing what would be painful padding of aimless exploring. Even that rarely occur, as Pewd has a tendency to be in running motion for the most part. Most likely because of his time limit of approximately ten minutes for each video. He also has a tendency to name make characters out of objects in the games he play, who he carry around and speak with whenever it is possible.
Only a few things slow him down when he himself doesn't want to. Once Pewds seriously get stuck in a game, he quickly resorts to using a walkthrough, or ask for help from the Bros (interacting with the community is something of a priority of his).
Speaking of which, aside from his first videos, he almost always has a camera recording his face. It shows his reactions to events in the games he play, and he communicates with his viewers through it frequently. That is another great difference between him and other LPers; he is seen the whole time. The viewers relate to him much easier, as if they were in the room with him as a couple of friends.
These are some of the reasons why PewDiePie gained a huge fanbase. His way of making the LPs strayed from the usual formula of the time, and that made him easily memorable.
