Often, they use stock footage and make it seem like the story's on hold. At worst, viewers can feel like their time is wasted as they have information which they already know explained back to them; it's like being a character in the middle of an extended As You Know sequence. However, some viewers have to get up to speed with the recent events. Perhaps they missed a couple of episodes on TV, or they simply forgot about what happened. Appealing to that crowd angers the dedicated crowd who already knows about these events, but not including the flashback confuses the crowd who doesn't know about them... |
