Basic Trope: When a character acts out of character, it is Serious Business.

  • Straight: When Angelo makes one too many rude remarks, the calm and stoic Bob loses his temper and yells at him, shocking Angelo and everyone else watching.
  • Exaggerated: Bob goes Ax Crazy and tears Angelo's head off.
  • Downplayed: Bob simply looks annoyed and parries Angelo's remark with the same rudeness.
  • Justified: Angelo's remark had just hit one of Bob's Berserk Buttons.
  • Inverted: Bob hadn't been himself all day and one of Angelo's comments snapped Bob back to his old self.
  • Subverted: Bob looks like he's about to snap, but then he calms down and pointedly ignores Angelo.
  • Double Subverted: But then Angelo makes yet another remark that causes Bob to turn around and punch him in the jaw.
