  • Non Sequitur Scene: In one episode there's a scene where the twins are lying in bed in front of their maids. One of them pulls off the covers and reveals he's wearing a colorful elephant head on his crotch, that blasts confetti into the air. This is not given any lines, and it goes onto the next scene quickly afterwards, with this never being explained or mentioned again.
    • The elephant head is a common way to censor out nudity, so that's probably what that was.
  • Non Sequitur Scene Episode]]: There was the random episode that was a parody of Alice in Wonderland featuring random single-episode characters from throughout the first season showing up again...
  • Crosses the Line Twice: The twins antics are sometimes seen as this.
  • Crowning Moment of Awesome: The climax of the final episode.
    • Almost all of chapter 80.
  • Crowning Music of Awesome: Don't deny how cool the ending song is for a shoujo. The extended version used in the finale is even better.
  • Crowning Moment of Funny: Has its own section.
  • Crowning Moment of Heartwarming: "It doesn't look like they plan on letting me be just a memory any time soon, even if just for a little while!" from the manga, when the entire Host Club follows Haruhi to Boston when she decides to study abroad
    • The thunderstom scene between Tamaki and Haruhi (ep. 8 in the anime) deserves mentioning.
    • Everything Kyouya does to find Tamaki's mother while he's on the school trip to France, all while pretending he doesn't care. Squee.
  • The last couple of chapters seem to tug between Tear Jerker and this. Seeing all the people Tamaki's met trying to get him out of his house to meet his mom and Tamaki himself showing such dedication to his grandmother just warms heartstrings.
    • Haruhi finally telling Tamaki that she loves him in chapter 80.
      • How about most of chapter 80? Tamaki's grandmother tells him to go see his mother in the airport, and when he comes back to play the piano for her more. Also, when Tamaki and his mother finally see each other after three years.
    • Most of Chapter 81, and probably the remaining 2 chapters of the manga.
    • Just the scene with Tamaki at Haruhi's mother's grave, telling her how much he loved Haruhi.
    • Kasanoda getting accepted by his classmates as a nice guy.
    • Just the fact that all of the Host Club decides to studying abroad to be with Haruhi and Tamaki.
  • Die for Our Ship: Eclair, in the anime.
  • Ear Worm: The title theme, "Sakura Kiss".
  • Ensemble Darkhorse: Come on, who doesn't love Nekozawa?
  • Fan Nickname: "Haruhi Potter".
  • Fan-Preferred Couple: In spite of the Official Couple, there are still many Hikaru/Haruhi shippers.
    • There are almost as many people who ship Kyoya/Haruhi as there are HikaHaru shippers- if not more.
    • Or Kyouya/Tamaki shippers.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: That episode where a boy thought Haruhi was a cross-dresser. Then we meet her father.
    • The creator early on in the series said she couldn't see Haruhi getting together with Tamaki. Guess how it ends.
    • Maaya Sakamoto (Haruhi) and Kenichi Suzumura (Hikaru in the anime and Kaoru in the drama CD) recently (as of August 2011) got married. This way, the Hitachiin twins/Haruhi One True Threesome actually became real.
  • Ho Yay: Hikaru and Kaoru, Mori and Honey. Kyouya and Tamaki are not without subtext as well (being "mommy" and "daddy," and so on...)
    • There's also a more subtle one with Kyoya. When Tamaki calls the rest of the host club (other than Haruhi) the homosexual supporting cast, Kyoya is annoyed. However, he's only annoyed by the 'supporting' line, he doesn't seem to care that he was called a homosexual.
    • Also what the girls think they're seeing when Kasanoda, who joined the club as a customer, picks Haruhi to be his favorite.
      • Speaking of Kasanoda, there's definitely something between him and his servant Tetsuya, at least on Tetsuya's side.
    • Haruhi herself has more than enough Les Yay, particularly with anyone from the Zuka Club.
    • And then in chapter 73 of the manga, there's a whole slew of it between Kyoya and Kaoru, of all people, including Kyoya waking up to find Kaoru in his bed (fully dressed, on top of the covers, reading a book), Kaoru blushing as Kyoya changes clothes and Hunny asking if Hikaru is mad because "Kyo-chan stole your Kao-chan."
    • And episode 9 of the live drama has Kyouya and cross-dressing Honey dressed up as a couple and fawning over each other and almost kissing all episode while following Haruhi and Hikaru in disguise.
  • Launcher of a Thousand Ships: Haruhi is officially dating Tamaki but she is often shipped with... everyone else! Yes, even Renge.
  • Magnificent Bastard: Kyouya, Tamaki, the Twins, and the Zuka Club all have their moments.
  • Memetic Outfit: Haruhi's first appearance is a wee bit...unflattering.
    • Aaand, it has returned~! Haruhi goes back to her frumpy outfit in chapter 76 of the manga to protest the banning of the host club and send a message to Tamaki, who has been forbidden to talk to her. Looking back at chapter 1 with the same outfit it's easier to see some Art Evolution, too.
  • One True Threesome: Try OT7. It's like a fangirl's dream come true.
    • That being said, Haruhi paired up with the Twins is a fairly popular One True Threesome among fans of this series.
  • Periphery Demographic: There are a surprising amount of male fans. The fact that it pokes fun at a genre that males might find a little ridiculous is a key factor. And although the guys don't swoon over most of the Host Club members, Haruhi is so cute! Plus it's just plain funny.
    • The end of chapter 82. "Yes, I will go...I'm going to America."
  • Moral Dissonance: Kyoya pretends to sexually harass Haruhi after the thugs at the beach incident to make her realize how vulnerable she is to boys and convince her it's good to apply some common sense every now and then. Of course, it's generally good advice, but it's rather nasty to threaten sexual assault just to make a point.
    • It's likely Kyoya was still angry at her for frightening them. And she didn't seem to be getting the point otherwise. Also, Kyoya seems to like, and even play up the rest of the characters' view that he's secretly evil so while it was still really creepy, and kind of a What the Hell, Hero?? moment, it's not exactly out of character.
      • The whole thing is just ridiculously victim-blaming, whatever excuses you throw at it. Likely a result of Values Dissonance as well.
  • Tear Jerker: Haruhi's dream about her lost mother.
  • The Woobie: Each of the main characters has had at least one Woobie moment, especially in the case of Tamaki.
  • Ugly Cute: Kasanoda.
