My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic/Recap/S2/E23 Ponyville Confidential/Fridge

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • Fridge Brilliance: Why would Mayor Mare dye her mane gray instead of pink, and why would it be in any way scandalous? Because looking older gives you the appearance of wisdom, experience and sophistication. That's useful in her profession, and projecting that image falsely makes her look bad.
    • Or maybe Mayor Mare doesn't want people to think she like a certain other pink pony.
    • In a world of multicolored ponies, a grey mane is exotic? A Palomino is the equivalent of a platinum blonde?
    • Why would Big Mac be the one to chew the Crusaders out for their actions? Because he's already been involved in one of these schemes and remembers how it nearly messed up his and Cheerlee's lives, so he knows how unintentionally destructive they can get. He might also have been still a bit bitter about that time as well.
    • Applejack represents the element of honesty. Thus, when faced with those who are looking to find out her darkest secrets, even her sister, she is less likely to make excuses or make things up and more likely to keep herself from speaking any more than necessary. Yup.
  • Fridge Horror: Big Mac is depicted as the most exceptionally disgusted by the Cutie Marks (to the point of bellowing at them to get out of his sight), and unlike Applejack, is not shown forgiving them in the montage at the end. He has not been shown in any scenes with his baby sister or any of the Cutie Marks in any later episodes thus far, leaving ambiguity as to whether he has reconsiled with any of them.
  • Fridge Logic: Why did Diamond Tiara leave and come back when Cheerilee told newspaper staff to stay behind? Maybe she likes making dramatic entrances?
    • Fridge Brilliance: Considering who Diamond Tiara is, that wouldn't be so far from the truth
    • Why would Celestia be eating cake with her hooves when she could use her magic?
    • If Spike was interviewed by Gabby Gums, why didn't he tell the others who she really was when he knew her identity and the others were wanting to know so badly?
      • It's implied that he did.
      • Spike was probably being nice.
      • It's completely possible they got someone else to go. Anyone on the newspaper team would work.
      • Or they submitted their questions to him in writing rather than in person.
    • Does anypony ever lock their doors? It would have saved some of the trouble (mainly the mayor).
      • Featherweight is a pegasus. All he needs to do is flutter up to a second story window.
        • And apparently nopony has heard of this newfangled invention called "curtains".
