Alternate Aesop Interpretation: Showing that even years after the fact Fluttershy is psychologically damaged by childhood bullying and teasing could certainly be seen as a message about just how badly that kind of thing can hurt someone.
And the Fandom Rejoiced:
- Derpy is back after a conspicuous absence from the last two episodes. Some had speculated that Derpy may have been completely removed from the show as fallout from Derpygate.
- Fluttertree became canon (though it was technically canon from the start, as it originated from a conversation in "Over a Barrel").
- Spitfire shows up near the end.
- This episode finally shows Rainbow Dash in a very sympathetic light after the treatment she had been getting through much of the season.
  - Same with Angel after his behavior in "Putting Your Hoof Down".
- Having another Fluttershy episode was certainly nice.
Non Sequitur Scene: The muscular pegasus appearing for a few seconds and screaming YEAH! Never established in previous episodes, has a Non-Standard Character Design, and barely acknowledged after an appearance.
Character Rerailment: Angel seems to be more sympathetic towards Fluttershy, considering his behavior in his last appearance.
- Rainbow Dash also got her Heart of Gold back, after several episodes where she was written without it.
Crazy Awesome: Referred to by name by Rainbow Dash.
Ensemble Darkhorse: The massively-muscled pegasus with the tiny wings, who had fanart within about ten seconds of the preview clip airing.
Harsher in Hindsight / Hilarious in Hindsight: Fluttershy breaking down after everypony laughs at her? Be glad she didn't become a psychotic killer.
- On the Hilarious in Hindsight angle, several months before this episode, there was this piece of fan art shipping Fluttershy and an OC named RGB, whose cutie mark is a tornado.
- On the Harsher in Hindsight side, Getting Back on Your Hooves had a Circle of Shame flashback to flight school disturbingly simular to Fluttershy's in this episode, only with Rainbow Dash, despite the chapter being posted about two weeks before the episode aired.
Moe: Rumble, Thunderlane's little brother.
Nightmare Fuel: The very Hitchhock-ian scene of Fluttershy feeling everypony's eyes on her.
Rescued from the Scrappy Heap: Angel.
Visual Effects of Awesome: The tornado scene.
Tear Jerker: One scene in particular, not helped by the background music:

Rainbow Dash: Fluttershy, wait! So some punks poked a bit of fun at you and you got stage fright, big deal. You're not gonna go quit just because of that, are you?
