Michael Jackson: The Immortal World Tour/YMMV

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • And the Fandom Rejoiced: Michael Jackson fans loved the idea of this and its sister show, but on the other hand...
    • Tainted by the Preview: The announcement had the Cirque fanbase up in arms, primarily for 1) being yet more Jukebox Musical variants after LOVE and Viva Elvis, suggesting a chronic lack of originality on the part of Cirque, 2) coming off as a money grab for both Cirque and Jackson's estate, as he hadn't been dead a year when they were announced, and 3) being based on the work of a figure who was extremely controversial in life.
  • Complaining About People Not Liking the Show: Professional critics who give the show mixed or negative reviews may have to put up with comments from angry Jackson fans. In the case of the Los Angeles Times' disappointed review, Joe Vogel (who has written two books on Jackson's work) wrote a gushing rebuttal.
  • Just Here for Godzilla: A common theme in comments at Ticketmaster and even some professional reviews is that the show gives too much stage time to Jackson's post-1980s output, which many American listeners aren't familiar with and/or simply don't like as much as the earlier work.
