- Dude, Not Funny: When the kids are scolded by their parents due to Brian and Maurice's pranks. Nobody was laughing, because of how harsh the scene was. It goes from bad to worse.
- Who honestly thought this would be funny?
- Nightmare Fuel: The movie is relatively free of scary imagery, right up until the scene where Snik suddenly pulls a kid's head off his shoulders and tosses it in a basket.
- The special award for this goes to Boy, the leader of the monsters. His human child form is creepy and unsettling all by itself but when his face comes off... *shudders*
- Special Effect Failure:
- The CG shooting stars occasionally flying around the monster world, which were added to try to make it look otherworldly, but failing.
- It appears to be implied near the end (after they kill Snik) that the shooting stars are either the souls of the monsters or their energy.
- Snik's wig slightly sliding up his head in one scene.

- They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: The movie starts out as a kid exploring the world of monsters, it soon suffers from a case of severe Dude, Not Funny pranks and humor.
- What Do You Mean, It's for Kids?: Swearing, gory deaths, and verbal abuse. You know, for kids!
- And the closing theme is "Road to Nowhere", just to nail it home.
