The Players

Serge Azure

The contestant for House Azure. His house is represented by the color blue. He is the heir to the House, and is engaged to Jayle via Arranged Marriage. Very serious and single minded, he is devoted to the game and to his family. Skilled at combat, but he leaves strategy up to Reckes. A member of Team Aqua, which includes himself, Jayle, and Reckes. He is fifteen years old. His Companion is named Ergo.

Jayle Jade

The contestant for House Jade. Her house is represented by the color green. She is 2nd in line to family head, with her niece as current heir. She is engaged to Serge via Arranged Marriage. Instead of playing the game to win, she has instead devoted her resources to improving the lives of the natives that live in her territory, leaving her two allies to protect her. She has shown contempt for the methods of her House and seems uninterested in gaining more territory. She is the technical leader of Team Aqua, which includes herself, Serge, and Reckes. She is fifteen years old. Her Companion is named Sero, but she deactivated him at some point in the past.

Reckes Aureus

The contestant for House Aureus. His house is represented by the color gold. He is the heir to his family. A vassal of House Azure, his family is not very wealthy or powerful. He is very analytical and logical minded, and serves as the strategist for his team. He tends to be somewhat stoic. A member of Team Aqua, with Jayle and Serge. He is thirteen years old. His Companion is Sola.

Brand Amarant

The contestant for House Amarant. His house is represented by the color red. His position in the hierarchy of his house is somewhat uncertain. He should have been the heir by birth, but he believes he has been passed over in favor of his half-brother Ryam. His family is extremely wealthy and has provided him with a powerful army and special units, but due to his own incompetence he has not managed to utilize them well. He swings quickly between various moods and levels of enthusiasm. He is engaged to Seol via Arranged Marriage. Together, they form Team Apollo. He is fourteen years old. His Companion is Volca.

Seol Mercury

The contestant for House Mercury. Her house is represented by the color silver. She is engaged to Brand via Arranged Marriage, and together they form Team Apollo. She is extremely skilled at controlling multiple armies at once. Her mother and younger brother recently died, and she believes they were assassinated by House Jade. She has declared her intention to get revenge the only way she can, by capturing Jayle and taking her territory. Her Companion is Ceus.

Mei Tao

The contestant for House Tao. Her house is represented by the color peach. She is one of ten children of the leaders of her House. Cheerful, expressive, and playful, she is nonetheless a serious contender for the Land Games, holding nearly an entire continent by herself despite having no allies. Being the youngest of all the contestants, she did not spend much time interacting with them in training, and has no close ties with any of them. She is very capable of defense and prefers to play cautiously. She is twelve years old. Her companion is Iras.

Kurai Shade

The contestant for House Shade. His house is represented by the color grey. He is a servant of House Shade, not an actual member of the family. He has chosen to play the game in an unusual manner, acting as something of an arms dealer to the other players and avoiding direct conflict. He believes gathering information is more important than gaining territory, and has set his sites on learning what he can about Three and the player of House Blanc. Did not go to training with the other players, and does not know them well. He is sixteen years old. His companion is Rasu. Unlike the other Companions, she is in the shape of a wolf.

Three

The contestant for House Void. His house is represented by the color black. He has been so heavily altered via genetic engineering that he is no longer considered human, and more resembles a frightening monster. He either cannot or does not speak.

Blanc

The contestant for House Blanc. House Blanc is represented by the color white. Name and gender are unknown, and none of the players knows anything about House Blanc either. They appear to have abandoned the game shortly after landing, and has not participated in any battles.

Other Characters

Farseer

One of The Woken, the natives of the planet where the Land Games is taking place. His shell is black and covered in orange markings, an extremely rare coloration which marks him as an avatar of the gods. He believes it is his destiny to defeat the invaders and is following the lead of a mysterious spirit in hopes of discovering a way to complete his task.

The Companions

Each of the players has a Companion, a synthetic servant who's job is to keep them company, advise them on tactics, and provide support during combat. Each of them was allowed to design their Companion physically, though their personalities are out of their hands.

  • Foil: Each of the Companions seems to have a personality opposite of their master. For instance Ergo tries to get Serge to relax and is more easygoing, while Volca is extremely serious and tries to make Brand more enthusiastic about his duties.
  • Big Badass Wolf: Rasu, the only non-humanoid Companion.

Marona Jade

Jayle's older sister, and the Head of House Jade. She is extremely critical of Jayle's actions.
