Jak and Daxter: Next Generation is a Sequel Series Fanfic written by albino-ottsel. It revolves around the best friends' kids and the friends and enemies they make.

It was first published on Fanfiction.net on January 21, 2006 and has been going on since. The first chapter is here. Though for the longest time, it was just an ongoing series with no overarching plot, the author has recently confirmed that the layout for the rest of the story has been completed.

Tropes used in Jak and Daxter: Next Generation include:
  • Abusive Grandparents - Jary's grandparents blamed him for their daughter's death. Eventually they realize their mistake and reconcile, but it's too little too late: the damage is done.
  • Action Girl - Ava and Scout. Callan might count too by virtue of being a Wastelander.
    • Action Mom - Ashelin and Tess, of course. Aaralyn might count as well, being a Wastelander and all...
  • Alas Poor Jerkass - Tancredo's father, Rajesh, who's been shown as a stuck-up asshole, hands Jak over to the Dark Makers in order to get his son back. He later goes back and sacrifices himself to save Jak. Then we find out how much the death of his wife affected him. Suddenly, he's Woobie material.
  • Art Evolution - Well, writing evolution. The progress from the first few stories to the later ones is especially evident when compared side-by side.
  • Ascended Extra - Jary and Caton. Poor Gad has yet to get the same amount of character development.
  • Badass Normal - Ava, Scout, and Jary.
  • Battle Couple - Damas and Ava, Scout and Jary, Jak and Riona...
  • Berserk Button - Sorea will put the fear of God into anyone who bullies an innocent.
  • Cerebus Syndrome - From lighthearted, largely plotless antics to more dramatic story arcs.
  • Cloudcuckoolander - Callan has tendencies towards this.
  • Creator Breakdown - Happened once. She apologized for it.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass - Jak, following in his father's footsteps.
  • Crowning Moment of Heartwarming - This moment between Pecker and Daxter in the third story:

Pecker: Why did you save me and my family?
Daxter: ...it's because you're my friend, and that's what friends do.
Pecker: *startled* ...Thank you.

There's something I want you [Jary] to understand. I love Scout. If I thought you would hurt her, I would never try to get you guys back together. But I know that she'll be happy and safe with you. That's all I care about.

Scout: It doesn't involve fuzzy pink handcuffs and a copy of Tuck Everlasting, does it?
Callan: ... Actually, it's Catcher in the Rye.

  • Noodle Incident - Whatever happened in first grade to get Jak's powers sealed away is never elaborated on.
  • Overprotective Dad - Sig invoked this when he met Jary for the first time, but it's mostly averted because Ava and Scout are total badasses, and Sorea has every other character in the main cast looking out for her.
  • Parental Abandonment - Poor, poor Tancredo. Dead mom and disinterested father. Or so everyone thought. Too bad he died before they could reconcile.
    • Jary as well.
  • Primal Scene - Scout and Jary walk in on Aaralyn with her boyfriend (who Scout didn't know about). Things quickly become very awkward.
  • The Quiet One - Lajos. He speaks maybe once per story.
  • Raised by Grandparents - Jary.
  • Rape as Drama - Jary is a product of rape and later, Scout is almost raped by Jary's father.
  • Redemption Equals Death - Rajesh dies after saving Jak.
  • Replacement Goldfish - Veger and Andrea adopt Tancredo after his father dies.
  • Rescue Romance - Jary and Scout.
  • Retired Badass - Averted, as most of the original cast is still in action. Jak the First is the closest thing to being retired, as he's now a Captain in the Freedom League rather than the sole world-saver.
  • Romantic False Lead - Roarke for Scout. He was likable, but since his introductory story also revealed that Jary was an underdog and had a crush on Scout, it was obvious what would happen. He eventually gets Character Development.
  • Scars Are Forever - After Jary nearly falls to his death, his left shoulder and a good portion of his left arm and torso are scarred up. Also, he has scars from the knife wounds his father inflicted.
  • Second Love - Jary was this for Scout.
  • Self-Made Orphan - A tragic, unintentional one: Jary's mother died giving birth to him and he had to kill his own father to protect Scout.
  • Shallow Love Interest - Roarke was one for Scout in his first appearance.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang - Damas and Wes, of course.
  • Slice of Life - The older stories were generally self-contained, and about the kids acting like, well, kids. While most later stories are also self-contained, they are much more dramatic, and some big underlying plot is beginning to come to light.
  • Small Girl, Big Gun - Sorea once went to the Shooting Gallery and was goaded by Damas into trying out a new Blaster Mod.
  • Small Name, Big Ego - The writer herself. Got called out for it, and has since apologized.
  • Spin Offspring - The entire premise of the series.
  • Spotlight-Stealing Squad - Daxter shows up a whole lot more than Jak the First does. Jary also seems to be the one of the most fleshed-out characters (he at least has a lot of tropes).
  • Super Dickery - Chapter 138 opens with Jary beating the shit out of Roarke. It is quickly revealed that he's just trying to teach Roarke how to fight.
  • Taking the Kids - When Sig and his wife divorce in the beginning of the series, both agree that Sig, who's moving to Haven City, should take Scout.
  • Tear Jerker - Most of the Meaningful Funerals, especially the one-shot that focused on Samos's death, and was dedicated to the memory of a real-life person.
  • Their First Time - There was a story that opened with Scout and Jary's first time. The author made sure to mention that they used a condom (both times).
  • Twin Switch - In a story featuring a pair of twins as they grow up, it was inevitable. It was actually done twice, once played for humor, the other to introduce the fact that Wes got his father's Super-Powered Evil Side and Damas got the Superpowered Good Side.
  • Twofer Token Minority - Scout is black and in a wheelchair.
  • Unstoppable Rage - The Precursors' "Feral State", a homage to rip-off of the Avatar State.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds - Cayo and Jak, following the pattern of their fathers.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifting - Daxter, Tess and Veger can change into human forms at will. Jak inherited that ability. Cayo and Sorea (and occasionally Pecker and Berri) will go to Tess or Daxter if they need to be turned into a human for whatever reason.
  • Wiper Start - Done with Veger in one story, not to show that he was unfamiliar with the vehicle, but to bring up that he was nervous.
  • Word of God - The occasional before- and after-chapter spiels.
  • Yaoi Fangirl - Ava; see above.
