Fire Emblem Elibe/Characters/Blazing Sword/Neutral Parties
Ostia
Lord Uther of Ostia
The Marquess of Ostia and head of the Lycian League, and Hector's elder brother. Despite being tied up in the business of maintaining Lycia in the face of potential trouble from Bern, compounded by his ailing health brought on by sheer stress, he assists Hector and Eliwood where he can.
Class: General |
- Aloof Big Brother: To Hector, to a degree.
- Badass: So implied, if the fact that seasoned mercenaries with Undying Loyalty to their deceased employer are willing to completely abandon their contract on the main characters rather than face him is any indication.
- The Chains of Commanding: Lampshaded by Hector several times - Uther needs to make a good impression in order to avoid conflict with opportunistic foreigners, hence why Uther is only able to aid the army discreetly.
- Deadpan Snarker
- Good Scars, Evil Scars
- Incurable Cough of Death
- Promotion to Parent
- Reasonable Authority Figure
- Red Oni, Blue Oni: The blue to Hector's red.
- Sibling Yin-Yang: He's stoic and snarky to Hector's more Hot-Blooded nature.
- The Stoic
- You Gotta Have Blue Hair: Runs in the family after all.
Leila
An Ostian spy tasked with infiltrating and observing the Black Fang.
Class: Thief |
- Faux Action Girl: Used for drama.
- The Gwen Stacy
- Heroes Want Redheads: Matthew sure does.
- Hot Amazon
- Peek-a-Bangs
- Red Eyes, Take Warning & Evil Redhead: Both implied, and then brilliantly subverted. After seizing the gates of Castle Caelin, Ephidel stabs Lord Hausen and calls Leila in to finish him and dispose of his body so that the group will waste time searching for him, after which he commends her for being skilled despite her novelty to the group (all of which she seems to take in stride). When the next chapter is finished by seizing the Caelin throne, Leila appears before the group to reveal she's taken measures to save Lord Hausen and is recognised by Hector as a loyal Ostian spy and an ally.
- Retirony: Her last mission was fatal.
- Sacrificial Lion: Her death comes only three/four chapters after her introduction, shakes the party deeply, and is a prelude to Lord Elbert's Sacrificial Lion fate not long after.
- Zettai Ryouiki
Pherae
Lord Elbert of Pherae
Eliwood's father, the current Marquess of Pherae. His strange disappearance prompts Eliwood's expedition, and his actions throw Nergal's plans off-balance.
Class: Peer (dummy cutscene data) / Paladin (map narration appearance) |
- Badass: Even when he was dying, he managed to almost fatally strike Nergal down. At least the injuries he gave him slowed the old man down quite a bit, and Nergal is forced to acknowledge it.
- Certain implications about him take his Badass to almost Beyond the Impossible levels. Firstly, Nergal's plan to use Darin to embroil Lycia in war had the goal of obtaining massive amounts of quintessence from the dead, so Nergal could call Dragons through the Gate. Elbert is his backup plan should this fail. Yes, Elbert apparently has enough Life Energy in him to rival a good slice of an entire country. It gets better. People who have their quintessence taken typically keel over dead on the spot; even supreme badasses such as the Reeds and Ursula can only hang on long enough to deliver some Famous Last Words. Elbert? Hung on long enough to get the aforementioned Crowning Moment of Awesome with his quintessence sucked out.
- Badass Moustache
- Blue Eyes
- Died in Your Arms Tonight (Eliwood's)
- Disappeared Dad
- Dying Moment of Awesome: As noted above under Badass.
- Nice Guy: Like father, like son.
- Nobles Who Actually Do Something
- Redheaded Hero
- Sacrificial Lion
- Spanner in the Works: If not for him, Ninian and Nils would've never reached for Eliwood's group...
Lady Eleanora of Pherae
Eliwood's mother and Elbert's wife.
Class: Bishop |
- The High Queen
- Hot Mom: Looks barely older than her son.
- Tall, Dark and Bishoujo
- Woman in White
Santaruz
Lord Helman of Santaruz
The Marquess of Santaruz. Initially entranced by Ephidel and Darin's plans, he comes to realise the horror of what he's doing and attempts to back out.
- Died in Your Arms Tonight: Eliwood's.
- Expy: Of King Batou from Fire Emblem 4. How so? They're both manipulated by a magic user who serves the Big Bad, have a similar appearance, and both even die right after revealing information to the heroes.
- Like a Son to Me: What Eliwood was to him. He refuses to keep aiding Ephidel because of this, and gets struck down for his "service".
- Sacrificial Lamb: The first named sympathetic character to die in-story (besides General Eagler), his death at the hands of Knight of Cerebus Ephidel heralds the coming darker tone.
- Unwitting Pawn
Bern
Prince Zephiel of Bern
Class: Prince |
- The Ace
- Broken Ace (in Fuuin)
- Beware the Nice Ones
- Hair of Gold
- Late Arrival Spoiler: He's the Big Bad of Fuuin No Tsurugi.
- Nice Guy: Initially...
- Slasher Smile: Seen in the epilogue.
- The Unfavorite: To Desmond, since he's born from his extremely unhappy marriage to Hellene.
- Used to Be a Sweet Kid: Would you believe that this gentle, kind-hearted young prince who dotes on his little half-sister -- her illegitimacy aside -- and on the eve of his coming-of-age ceremony day only wishes for his entire family to live together in happiness (not only his parents and sister, but Guinevere's mother as well) would eventually become the cruel, nihilistic, Misanthrope Supreme Big Bad of Fuuin?
- "Well Done, Son" Guy: Too bad his dad was an asshole.
- Wide-Eyed Idealist
- The White Prince: Too bad that unlike Eliwood, he isn't The Wise Prince to go with it.
Princess Guinevere of Bern
- Children Are Innocent
- Hair of Gold
- Heir Club for Men
- Heroic Bastard: Daughter of Desmond and his mistress.
- The Unfavorite: To her stepmother Hellene.
King Desmond of Bern
- Abusive Parent: To Zephiel.
- Beard of Evil
- Blond Guys Are Evil
- Freudian Excuse: He has an ace son and ideal heir from an unwanted, legitimate marriage who he envies, and the woman he does love can not only be a mere mistress, but bore him a daughter. Yes, it's just as weak and pathetic an excuse as it sounds. No wonder fans despise him.
- Green-Eyed Monster: His envy of the prodigal son is indicated to be a big motivator for his odious behavior. See the rest under Star-Crossed Lovers.
- Hate Sink: For a character who appears in all of two scenes in this game and is a Posthumous Character in the next, he's probably one of the most despicable characters in the game, quite possibly due to the fact that, unlike even the rest of the setting's nastiest specimens, he has no Evil Is Cool points whatsoever. In fact, he's a huge loser. He's probably rivaled only by Lundgren in the fandom wrath he receives.
- Jerkass
- Kick the Dog: His first villain act is ordering to have the baby fox that Zephiel got as a gift for Guinevere killed.
- Offing the Offspring
- One-Scene Wonder: Appears in all of two scenes, but he leaves a lasting impression, and it's not a pretty one.
- Parental Favoritism: Loves Guinevere, hates Zephiel to the point of wanting to have him killed by the Black Fang so Guinevere's husband will be the King of Bern.
- Ironically, Guinevere does become Queen of Bern in Fuuin. Desmond would have been happy about that...
- Star-Crossed Lovers: Fuuin explains that the rest of his bitterness comes from how he and the girl he loved were never allowed to marry. Then came a certain Arranged Marriage with Hellene, and how both she and his beloved mistress bore him children but Hellene was the one able to give him one who'd qualify as heir... and well, It Got Worse.
Queen Hellene of Bern
- Ambition Is Evil
- Blondes Are Evil: Or more like, ambitious and very unhappy.
- Broken Bird and Jerkass Woobie: According to her cousin and old friend Louise and Louise's huband Pent, she used to be a sweet Ojou who just wanted to be happy in her married life. Then she married Desmond, and it went downhill for her.
Pent: She and the king are ill matched. She has suffered much. And now, she is obsessed with the succession. Such a sad life… |
- Heel Realisation
- Hot Consort
- Hot Mom: Of Zephiel.
- Missing Mom: In the sequel; we never do find out what happened to her.
- Rich Bitch
- Impoverished Patrician and Rags to Riches: Implied by Louise.
- Pet the Dog: Truly loves her son Zephiel, so she repents of trying to use him as her pawn against Desmond, and then gives a MacGuffin to the group as thanks for them saving him.

Fargus
Class: Berserker |
- A Father to His Men
- An Axe to Grind
- Badass Beard
- Badass Grandpa
- Boisterous Bruiser
- Cool Old Guy
- Gameplay and Story Segregation: Most likely in play during his Bonus Chapter - why would he offer free passage, and the young lordlings accept it, otherwise?
- Hidden Heart of Gold: When Eliwood asks for passage to Valor, he first asks for 100,000 gold to test him and Hector. Then, as a test of virtue and determination, he arranges for them to fight through all his men (most likely without any real fatalities or hostility) before offering them passage for free. As Dart says, he's "a tad off-kilter".
- Nonstandard Game Over: If you defy all advice to the contrary and attack him in his gaiden chapter. He can also be killed, but he's so powerful (level 18 promoted) that you'd have to go to a whole lot of trouble to pull it off.
- Pirate: Type 2
Eubans
Class: Paladin |
- Anti-Villain
- Badass Beard
- Face Death with Dignity: "I have no regrets... my life and death... are my own!"
- Kick the Dog: He was willing to do unsavoury things in order to ensure his mens' survival, and openly insulted Heath for his principles.
- Undying Loyalty: To Laus, apparently.
Sealen
Class: Nomad |
- Horse Archer
- Palette Swap: Of Oleg.
Georg
The lingering spirit of a soldier once in the service of Roland of the Eight Legends, who was tasked with guarding Durandal.
Class: Berserker |
- An Axe to Grind
- Palette Swap: Of Kaim.
- Punch Clock Villain: He's not evil at all; he's just the Guardian who keeps watch for Durandal.
- Unfinished Business: Guarding Durandal.
Kaim
The lingering spirit of a soldier once in the service of Durban of the Eight Legends, who was tasked with guarding Armads.
Class: Hero |
- An Axe to Grind: Kind of unusual - while axes are available to the Hero class and pretty much every Hero boss uses them in addition to swords, it's rare for them to be the preferred weapon of Hero bosses, never mind their only one.
- Palette Swap: Of Georg.
- Punch Clock Villain: Switch "Durandal" with "Armads" and it's the same.
- Unfinished Business: Guarding Armads.
Lady Madelyn of Caelin
Lyndis's mother, and the daughter of Lord Hausen.
- Blue Eyes: Never seen, but this is most likely the case since they were stated to match both Lyn and Hausen's eyes.
- Deceased Parents Are the Best
- Death by Origin Story
- Fish Out of Water: At first, within the Lorcas.
- The Ojou
- Posthumous Character
- Two Guys and a Girl: Her, Hassar, and Hassar's best friend Wallace.
Hassar, Chieftain of the Lorca
Lyndis's father.
- Deceased Parents Are the Best

- Two Guys and a Girl: Him, Madelyn, and his best friend Wallace.
- Papa Wolf: Lyn describes to Hector (in a route-exclusive conversation) how he lifted her onto a horse even as he was weak and dying.
- Posthumous Character
- Warrior Prince
Natalie
Dorcas's wife.
Class: Civilian |
- Damsel in Distress: Well, if you're an untrained and ill civilian woman, what do you expect to happen?
- Happily Married - Huge Guy, Tiny Girl - Victorious Childhood Friend: With her husband Dorcas.
- Ill Girl: Her leg has been giving her trouble ever since she was a little girl, hence why Dorcas desperately needs money for her medical treatment.
- Plucky Girl: The woman left her home with a bad leg and all to try disuading her hubby from his apparent Face Heel Turn. That takes guts.
- Silk Hiding Steel: Steel guts.
Warning: Final chapter spoilers follow.
Dragon
A collossal and very irritable Fire Dragon, and the True Final Boss of Blazing Sword.
After you finish off Nergal, with his last breath, he spites the heroes by opening the Dragon's Gate. Three Fire Dragons promptly emerge, prepared to barbecue anything that moves should they escape into the outside world. At this moment, Brammimond makes a timely appearance and revives Ninian with all her strength restored. She's able to freeze two of the dragons to death, but conveniently passes out afterward, leaving the one dragon left standing for the heroes to have to kill the hard way...
Class: Fire Dragon |
- Achilles' Heel: Durandal, Armads, Forblaze, Aureola, and the Sol Katti (even though it typically sucks) have an effective bonus against dragons, which is necessary to give you enough power to surmount the Dragon's monstrous Defense and Resistance. The other S rank weapons you pick up from the Boss Rush don't have the bonus, and can only barely scratch it.
- Weaksauce Weakness: It so happens that the Luna tome even pierces the Dragon's Resistance, and Athos can (with a boost from Filla's Might and a crit) use it get a cheesy One-Hit Kill.
- Armor-Piercing Attack: Its' fire breath negates Defense entirely, so it will always deal 37 damage (without a crit). Anyone with less than 38 HP should stay far away.
- Final Boss/True Final Boss: Take your pick, depending on what you were expecting prior to killing Nergal.
- Stationary Boss: Doesn't move from its' spot, but is imposing nonetheless with incredible stats and a longer reach with its' breath attack than it may appear (see below).
- Goddamned Bats: While you're trying to kill the Dragon, there are Morphs positioned way out of reach trying to snipe at you with long-range tomes and status effect staves. Of course, they're not much of a concern if you either get everyone out of their range, or optimally, kill the Dragon in 1 turn (which is quite doable).
- Goddamned Boss/Violation of Common Sense: The game neglects to inform you that the range for its' fire breath is three spaces, not two like most ranged attacks. You can imagine how many deaths can be attributed to those not aware of this, and getting somebody fragile fried to a crisp.
- Kill It with Fire:
Athos: What a calamity! If dragons return to this world… The continent will be ash in less than a month!! |
- Leitmotif: "Campaign of Fire".
- Mighty Volcano: Speed is the Dragon's only stat that's even remotely low, and the fire breath almost never misses.
- Fridge Brilliance: Really, if not for all the weapons it's weak to and its' predictable behavior, the Dragon would statistically be every bit as horrifically powerful as they're claimed to be in-universe.
- Our Dragons Are Different: Wings made of fire. Ye gods!
- Readings Are Off the Scale: It has 120 HP, which is more than even the in-battle HP counter can dsplay. Until you whittle it down enough, its' HP displayed is imposingly displayed as "??" (although you can cheat and check it on the map).
