Fallout 76 is a 2018 action role-playing video game by Bethesda Game Studios, released as part of their Fallout series. Set in the year 2102, it is a prequel to all the previous Fallout games. In it, the player takes the role of a resident of Vault 76 tasked by the vault overseer to venture out into the nuclear wasteland of Appalachia to re-colonize it while investigating a mysterious plaque. It is the first online and multiplayer Fallout game, and lacks a single-player campaign.

Upon its release it was plagued with a variety of technical problems, and was criticized for a number of poor design decisions, including a complete lack of human Non-Player Characters.

Tropes used in Fallout 76 include:
  • Cyborg: There are various cyborgs in the game such as Robobrains that will attack the player on site.
  • First-Person Ghost: As with all Fallout games so far you can't see your body when you look down, just your arms.
  • Heroic Mime: The Vault Dweller protagonist has no audible dialogue.
  • Mutants: There are plenty of mutants to fight in the wasteland such as the aptly named supermutants which are humans that got affected by Forced Evolutionary Virus.
  • Wide Open Sandbox: There are lots of things to do in the wasteland other than the main quest such as side quests, fighting enemies in general or just exploring.
