  • This Troper was in a production of Dog Sees God a few years ago. There were three times the whole cast simply broke down. The first was our first readthrough together. The second was our first rehearsal with blocking (specifically the pen pal scene). The third was a bit more interesting. The director had rigged a water system above the stage such that it would rain as C.B. read the letter. The first time we tested it, it worked flawlessly. An already emotionally charged scene was taken one step over the line when, as the water was turned out as the lights faded out, the connecting hose (dripping a few last "tears") made a gurgling sound that was a dead ringer for a person sniffling. Cue waterworks from the cast.
  • Van's sister revealing why she lit the Little Red Haired Girl's hair on fire. Van's sister had gotten an abortion the day before sex ed, and as she tried to zone out and not listen, she read over the LRHG's shoulder. LRHG was writing a note about how glad she was that she was a virgin and was going to stay that way before marriage and how sickened she was by all the whores at school. And Van's sister snapped.
