Danger Time

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

It starts like this:

You are in a brightly lit white room.

There is a metal door in front of you.

It is slightly ajar.

What do you do?

You wake up in this room without memories. It appears you are in a hospital, wearing green scrubs, but you don't know why. The plaque on the door says that your name is Eurydice. The clock doesn't appear to be working. There's blood on the walls. There's a faint tapping coming from somewhere. And there's a note in your pocket that tells you to rejoice - today is the first day of the end of your life.

A Play By Post RPG written by GraciousVictory (author of The Jeanette Experience) which is alternately filled with references to Classical Mythology and High Octane Nightmare Fuel. Read it starting here.

There are five Acts:

  • ACT I (GODS AND HEROES)
  • ACT II (THE LAST NAME)
  • ACT III (HUNTER THE HUNTED)
  • ACT IV (ERIS'S GIFT)
  • ACT V (THE MOTHER OF ALL MONSTERS)

The original is now over. The now-finished sequel is here.

Tropes used in Danger Time include:
  • Abandoned Hospital: Where you and the others are.
  • Adorkable: Theseus in spades.
  • Affably Evil: Cruelty. He may be out to get you, but he's just so likeable about it.
  • Alien Geometries: Charybdis the Voidtender can create these, being able to manipulate both space and time.
  • Anticlimax Boss: Echidna. She's a Physical God...who lets you all go to rebuild the world.
  • Apocalypse How: A Class 1, maybe a Class 2. Depends on how many people the Fever killed.
  • Big Bad: Echidna, your sister.
  • Bigger Bad: Whoever left the Beacon to be found. The Beacon caused the Fever. Echidna was just the first to become a Stage Four survivor, thus a god.
  • Bishonen: Persephone. Complete with lampshade. "He is the sexy."
  • Bittersweet Ending: Humanity has been reduced to several hundred people, probably all of them with superpowers. Something else is out there, responsible for the Beacon. But you're outside and free and it's a beautiful day.
  • Body Horror: The old man looking for his daughter Sarah. This is what he looks like:

You see in front of you something that was probably once a man. It is naked, tall, and fish-belly white, and it looks as though something has scooped out its face and most of its brain, leaving a hollow, empty cavity in its place. Its finger and toenails have been forcibly ripped from its body and replaced by long, rusted iron nails.

    • All the Hundred Handed Ones are like this, but Minotaur the Painlord takes the cake: it doesn't have feet, it just walks around on bloody stumps.
  • Boss Battle: Referred to by name.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: The fifth Act starts out with Echidna talking to you. Not Typhon, you, the reader.
  • Brick Joke: When searching for weapons you search for a flamethrower, only to be told of a lack of Medical Grade Flamethrowers in the vicinity. Later when you open the vault door, Guess what Orpheus has on her back.
    • When running from Minotaur, you lament that your name isn't Theseus. In the beginning of the sequel, your name is Theseus.
  • Broken Bird: Euterpe.
  • The Cameo: The Danger Time protagonists return towards the end of the sequel.
  • The Can Kicked Him: At one point, you are menaced by a pale, rotting hand that emerges from a toilet in the men's bathroom.
  • Classical Mythology: Everyone's names are references to characters from Greek Mythology, including your own.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: You are (your first instinct upon meeting people is to spout gibberish to see what their reaction is).
  • Creepy Child: Hope has shades of this, in Danger Time II.
  • Creepy Twins: Typhon and Echidna.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Hades.
  • Death Is Cheap: It turns out that whenever anyone dies, they do actually respawn and start over. Including the villains.
  • Distracted by the Sexy: A problem you (and a few of your allies) encounter once you run into Helen.
  • Dream Sequence: A prominent part of Danger Time II.
    • Also how Echidna tests your comrades in Danger Time.
  • Dual Wield: During the Boss Battle, you try dual-wielding a scalpel and a syringe.
  • Eldritch Abomination: The Final Boss of Danger Time II, Pandora.
  • Everyone Is Bi: Overlaps with Cast Full of Gay.
  • I See Dead People: Hades can speak to the dead.
  • Kaleidoscope Eyes: Alecto has them for some reason.
  • Medical Horror: The hospital is filled with burned beds, bloody walls, rotting corpses, and broken down medical equipment.
  • Mistaken for Gay: Helios. She triggers everyone's gay-dar.
  • Names to Run Away From Really Fast: Subverted with Hades and Atropos, as they aren't bad people, but played completely straight with Arachne the Corpseweaver.
    • Arachne the Corpseweaver is followed up by Charybdis the Voidtender and Minotaur the Painlord.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Yeah. Nice one, Theseus.
  • Nothing Is Scarier: You continually hear a tapping sound. It's the sound of nails hitting the floor.
  • One-Winged Angel: Oh, boy, Pandora...
  • Pettanko: Theseus laments this.
  • The Plague: Part of the reason you are trapped in the hospital is because you all contracted the Fever.
  • Physical God: Echidna and Typhon, before Echidna took it away from her.
  • Portal Network: Arachne the Corpseweaver can create portals between her webs.
  • Reality Warper: Charybdis the Voidtender can warp time and space locally. Echidna is a god and can fix everything, but decides not to do so.
  • The Reveal: At the end of the first act, you realize that your name isn't actually Eurydice. At the end of the second act, you are revealed to be Typhon, Echidna's sister.
    • Hope isn't just a little girl...
  • Shout-Out
  • The Speechless: Atropos.
  • Talking the Monster to Death: How you defeat Medea the Heartthief.
    • Also how you wind up convincing Madness to stab itself.
  • Theme Naming: Goes without saying what said theme is.
  • This Is No Time to Panic: When you first see the old man looking for Sarah.

> Panic.
