Ceiling Cling/Headscratchers

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • This entire trope. Okay, fine, nobody ever looks up. I'm willing to accept this. The problem? Unless you have abnormally lousy peripheral vision or the clinger is a small child or a midget, 'YOU DON'T NEED TO!' The diameter of the area above a person's head who's staring straight ahead that they can't see without moving their head is much, much less than 5 feet, so an average sized adult would be visible to someone with average peripheral vision even if they aren't looking up.
    • Most examples of this trope tend to be in instances where the individual clinging to the ceiling is hidden from such vision; i.e. either the ceiling is very high up, there's shadows up there blocking their view, there's an obstruction, or they're hiding over a doorway.
