Carrie/Fridge

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

Fridge Brilliance

  • Christian parents far less fanatical than Margaret White are known to Homeschooled Kids their children for religious reasons. Why doesn't Margaret just homeschool Carrie (or send her to a Christian school) instead of letting her attend the public school where she'd be exposed to the sinful influences of her classmates and teachers? (One of Carrie's classmates even asks this question in The Remake.) Think about it. Margaret is a widow who works full-time; she doesn't have enough time to devote to homeschooling Carrie. As for Christian school, a) it's stated in the book that she works at a laundry, which is hardly a job that pays enough to send a child to private school, and b) knowing Margaret, any religious school would most likely fail to meet her strict definition of "true" Christianity. Better that Carrie receive no religious instruction in school than heretical religious instruction.

Fridge Horror

  • Even if she gets over her trauma, Sue will have to live with the fact that she inadvertently caused the deaths of her teachers, her friends and her boyfriend. Sure, she meant well, but if wasn't for her, Carrie wouldn't have been at the prom where she goes on her murderous breakdown. She's going need to many, many years of therapy.
    • This is more explicit in the book, especially at Sue's testimony before the White Commission. Given what happened, it's doubtful therapy would do her much good...
  • The 2002 film has the most chaos going on when the massacre occurred. How many people died, not by Carrie, but by trying to save themselves?
